Peanut Butter Cinnamon Toast Crunch Is Finally Here—and It Rules

A couple months ago we reported on the news that Peanut Butter Cinnamon Toast Crunch would be hitting stores in the new year. We didn’t have a ton of solid info at that time, and the main question on our minds was: Would this be different from Peanut Butter Toast Crunch, a cinnamon-less CTC cereal last seen on shelves in 2014? Well, the answer is definitely yes, because this new version does have cinnamon. (I still can’t believe we used to have a CTC flavor that didn’t have any Cinnadust. That feels like fake news.)

Now that it’s out, I got to try this new Cinnamon Toast Crunch for myself. I snacked on this cereal straight out of the bag and, duh, poured it in a bowl with milk (with ice, like the little freak I am). Get ready to argue with me in the comments.

Pros: Guys, I actually like this better than regular Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Don’t get too excited—I don’t love CTC by any means. I think it’s a perfectly acceptable if somewhat overhyped cereal. But the cinnamon and peanut butter definitely work together, and it adds a subtle flavor depth that I really enjoy. Now, I am about to critique this for its underwhelming peanut butter flavor, but I also (paradoxically) want to give CTC credit for its restraint. If they went too bold on the PB, it wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable. 

Cons: The peanut butter is inconsistent and too subtle overall. But more importantly, I think we could lose a gram or two of sugar in the recipe. It’s just a little too sweet. I know I say that about most things (my sweet tooth is tragically underdeveloped), but I stand by it here. The peanut butter would shine more on the finish with a little less Cinnadust in the mix. Sorry, not sorry!

Verdict: Hey, it’s pretty close to the perfect product. A few tweaks to the recipe, and this could be the best new Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavor yet.
