Welp. It happened. PepsiCo officially rolled out their new Pepsi Prebiotic Soda line nationwide, both in stores and online. Yes, this is exactly what it sounds like: Pepsi, but with added prebiotic fiber (3g per can). The launch has two flavors: OG Cola and Cherry Vanilla. Fibermaxxers, 2026 is going to be your year, I can feel it.

We’ve been steadily reporting on the launch of Prebiotic Pepsi over the course of the past, like, six months. We know it had a sold-out limited release on Black Friday last year, and we were even able to taste these new Pepsi flavors for ourselves. And finally, we can say that as of yesterday, you can grab a can just about anywhere you can buy normal Pepsi products.

Exciting! Exciting… but are they any good??

Like I said, we tried them for ourselves, and you know…we certainly weren’t in love with them. Both flavors were tolerable. The regular Cola earned 7.5 Sporks, and the Cherry Vanilla received an underwhelming 5 Sporks. They reminded us a bit of Diet Pepsi with lighter carbonation, carrying that “diet” sweetness that just didn’t land for everyone, even if the cola base was decent. The Cherry Vanilla lost a lot of points for the aftertaste, we’re sorry to say. You’ve been warned.

Hey, whatever happened to the prebiotic soda that Coca-Cola was releasing? Did that ever happen?

Oh, it did! The launch kinda flew under the radar, though. Coca Cola released their version of prebiotic soda in early 2025 under the name Simply Pop, expanding their pre-existing “Simply” brand. Reviews from TastingTable were not glowing, but it seems to have had a mixed reception on Reddit. We haven’t tried them for ourselves—but hey, maybe we will, and compare them directly to the new Pepsi prebiotic sodas. Stay tuned.

Can you remind me what the difference is between prebiotic and probiotic soda?

Prebiotics are a type of fiber that feed beneficial gut bacteria. Probiotics are live bacteria. Both are often marketed in the same wellness lane. Whether you should be drinking soda for digestive support is a separate conversation. But I won’t sit here, pretend to be a nutritionist, and judge you for your answer either way.

Hold on. What’s the difference between prebiotic fiber and just… regular fiber?

“Regular” fiber is a broad category that includes soluble and insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber mostly helps with digestion by adding bulk. Soluble fiber dissolves in water and can help with stuff like cholesterol and blood sugar. Prebiotic fiber, specifically, is usually a type of soluble fiber (like inulin or chicory root fiber) that your body doesn’t digest. Instead, it passes through to your colon, where it becomes food for beneficial gut bacteria.

By the way, our pick for the best tasting prebiotic soda brand isn’t Pepsi or Coca-Cola. It’s SunSip.

These huge soda brands want to make money on a trend that smaller brands are doing well already. Fine, fine. That’s capitalism for you. But I’d be remiss not to shout out our favorite prebiotic soda brand, which is SunSip. Not Ollipop, not Poppi, but SunSip, an arguably less talked about brand by the popular kombucha maker Health-Ade. Their prebiotic Cherry-Cola is far, far superior to Pepsi’s Cherry Vanilla, and that’s all I’m going to say on the matter. Toodles!
