It’s Freaky Friday—but for snacks! PepsiCo is Frankensteining three new snacks out of some of the brand’s staples for a new Flavor Swap line-up. And it’s all being done with the help of some of the internet’s biggest stars. What the heck am I talking about? Let’s get into it.

What are these new Flavor Swap snacks?

So, here’s the deal. PepsiCo Foods is taking three of their iconic snacks’ flavors and putting them on other snacks. Check it out:

  • Doritos Cool Ranch on Ruffles: The second best Doritos flavor on one of our favorite ridged potato chips? Heck yeah.
  • Ruffles Cheddar & Sour Cream on Doritos: We recently tried all the Ruffles flavors and ranked Cheddar & Sour Cream at the tippity top. That grade A seasoning on a corn chip could be a real game changer.
  • Lay’s Sweet Southern Heat Barbecue on Cheetos Crunchy: While it’s not our favorite Lay’s flavor, Sweet Southern Heat is our favorite Lay’s BBQ flavor. And, who knows, maybe it will find its true home on some crunchy Cheetos!

How did PepsiCo decide on these flavors?

According to a press release, the R&D team “tested multiple combinations of flavors and brands to land on three perfect pairings.” If any of these are anywhere near as good as the Funyuns-flavored Lay’s, then we’re all in for a treat.

When will these new snacks be available?

The Flavor Swap snacks will start rolling out in mid-February. But if you can’t wait, then head to Instagram and follow Cheetos, Ruffles, and Doritos. The brands are offering special, limited time drops right now.

Who are these internet stars?

Madison Beer is teaming up with Cheetos, iShowSpeed is working with Doritos, and Dude Perfect is partnering with Ruffles to launch these new snack mashups. You’ll see them in the brands’ social posts and on the bags. We don’t really care who’s on the bag, though. We’re all about what’s inside. We’re mature like that.

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
