Planters Apple Cider Donut Cashews Are Pretty Nuts, but Do They Taste Good?

Are you an apple orchard girlie? Does the scent of cinnamon make your heart feel like it is stepping on crispy leaves and sippin’ on hot cocoa in the vicinity of a carved orange gourd? Do you love apple cider doughnuts but absolutely despise the “dough” part? Well, you are in luck because in their frenzy to join in the fall-themed packaged food madness, Planters has come out with Apple Cider Donut Cashews, and today I tried them so you whether to seek out or eschew these cashews.

Planters Apple Cider Donut Cashews

Pros: I couldn’t decide if these smelled like a banana nut muffin or an apple cinnamon muffin, but they do definitely have a baked-good aroma to them. As for the flavor, they taste like cashews and apple cider donuts…mostly. But they also taste a bit like a banana nut muffin to me, though that could just be the combo of s, fruit, and nut flavors reminding me of similar things I’ve had before. The coating is a glaze rather than a powder. The cashews are enrobed in a layer of sweet, apple cinnamon flavored, crackly, crunchy toffee. These are definitely addicting and have enough of a hint of salt to not be cloyingly sweet.

Con: The first downside here is texture. Some of the larger chunks (of cashew and sugary coating) are rock hard—harder than toffee—and I was a bit nervous for my teeth. Also, the cashews are a bit inconsistent—the amount of coating and flavoring varies from nut to nut. One cashew I had tasted so apple-y and artificial, I felt a bit like I was eating a Yankee candle, but not all of them tasted like that. Some were lovely and balanced blends of cashew, apple, and cinnamon. Overall, these new Planters nuts are pretty good (and, as I said, pretty addicting), and if you like cashews, apple, cinnamon, and immaculate fall vibes, these are worth trying out.
