Popeyes and One Piece? A Popeyes’ Employee Just Leaked a Major Collab 

If you’re an anime fan, or have kids, or exist in a state that’s a combination of those two things, then you’ll know a lot about “One Piece”. The franchise has been around for decades, and the anime adaptation of the original manga has been on screens since 1999 – but in the last few years, it’s broken through in the Western world in a way that few other shows like it have managed.

Now, I’ll admit that I know very little about “One Piece”, and nor do I have any anime fans in my immediate vicinity to tell me what it’s all about. But what I do know about is culinary collabs – and I also know that this may well be a big year for the series in the food world. Just a couple of days ago, we told you about a One Piece menu at Universal’s Fan Fest Nights, and now, we bring word that it might be linking up with Popeyes. Here’s the lowdown on what might be happening. 

One Piece x Popeyes

News of this potential collaboration was leaked by a Popeyes employee, who posted a video on good old social media of some One Piece packaging at their store. This packaging, which has a picture of Luffy (who’s the protagonist of the show – see, I did my research!) on it and the words Luffy’s Bento Box, points towards a meal deal drop. 

Over at Foodbeast, a few more details made it through the net. Apparently, the Bento Box is due to arrive on April 13 and will be available through May 10. Each box will contain two pieces of Popeyes bone-in chicken, along with mac and cheese and a side of your choice. Popeyes is also potentially offering a Luffy Bento Bundle, which includes a gum-gum fruit lemonade (flavored with pineapple, blue raspberry, and orange) and a Chopper’s cupcake (a strawberry cake with pink strawberry icing and white sprinkles). It all sounds very nice to me.

Aye Aye, Captain!

Popeyes isn’t averse to collabs, but it’s fair to say that it doesn’t do them as often as some other chains. Last year, though, it had a pretty high-profile link-up with “Hot Ones”, with which it designed and released a limited-time menu that went hard on the spice. So far this year, it’s focused mainly on pricing and expanding its menu: Back in January, it dropped the price of its signature sandwich, a move that was quickly followed by the release of four new items in an all-seafood menu.
