I have a somewhat intimate relationship with antacids – meaning that I go through a lot of them. Not to go into it too much here, but I have a fairly sensitive stomach, and between that and a low tolerance for fizzy drinks, I tend to have to reach for those meds more often than I’d like. And when I do, I like them to taste…like meds. Antacids can get away with having a bit of a fruity flavor, sure, but by and large, I don’t want to be tricked into thinking that they’re another food. I want them to take me AWAY from the food that caused the indigestion in the first place.

So when I spotted this new pair of products from Mylanta, I have to say my brow furrowed. I cocked my head. And I wondered…why. And I’m not the only one.
Mylanta Fall Harvest Collection
A couple of days ago, @markie_devo dropped the news that Mylanta is now selling two new versions of its liquid antacid…and they both come in fall flavors. You can now buy Pumpkin Spice and Spiced Apple Cider versions of the medication in stores and online. That’s right: 355 milliliters of acid-relieving action, to which you can segue seamlessly from all of your other PSL or apple cider-flavored desserts.
There’s a certain irony at play here. Indigestion and heartburn can be worsened by spice and sugar – so making two antacid liquids with spicy, sugary flavors seems to feel utterly counterintuitive. Sure, it’s just the taste of pumpkin spice and spiced apple cider, and not the ingredients that might prompt discomfort, but surely people want a bit of relief from the flavors that might have caused indigestion, too? Something different perhaps? Besides, doesn’t this all feel a little bit…weird? Did we need this? I don’t know if we did. But it exists. So there we are.
A Sense Of Bafflement
It’s vindicating that we’re not the only ones who feel a bit flummoxed by Mylanta’s new pair of antacid liquids. “Is this fake?” said one person in @markie_devo’s comment section, while another person said, “It gets to a point.” We also spied the vomit emoji sitting in there, just saying. Others, though, did point out that Mylanta’s other food-flavored indigestion medications, like its peppermint option, were surprisingly good and had become staples – and a lot of people are seeing the funny side of it all. And hey, they’re eye-catching. They’re a talking point. We’re talking about them! So, mission accomplished, we guess.
