Rhett & Link Put Campbell’s Cheesy Soups in Head-to-Head Match-Ups

It was a “Souptember to Remember” back in 2020, when Rhett & Link grabbed their spoons and tasted their way through eight varieties of Campbell’s soup. But not just any Campbell’s soups (of which there are EIGHTY). Nay. This March Madness-style bracket taste test focused on the brand’s cheesy soups, the “mmm mmm goodest,” according to Link.

More than 28,000 Mythical Beasts voted to select the eight soups that would go head to head: Baked Potato with Cheddar and Bacon Bits, Cheddar Cheese, Baked Potato with Steak & Cheese, Roasted Red Pepper & Smoked Gouda Bisque, Creamy Broccoli Cheddar Bisque, Spicy Chicken Quesadilla, Chicken Broccoli Cheese with Potato, and Beer-N-Cheese with Beef & Bacon. Here the tasty results.

Round 1

Campbell’s Chunky Baked Potato with Cheddar and Bacon Bits  vs. Campbell’s Cheddar Cheese Soup

More than 1,000 Mythical Beasts claimed that plain ol’ Cheddar Cheese is their favorite Campbell’s soup. Rhett couldn’t back that opinion. “That is not good,” he said upon first bite. “A thousand of y’all must’ve gotten confused.” Link even called it “horrible.” The Chunky won this round and it was no contest. Look, it’s just hard to compete with bacon.

Winner: Campbell’s Chunky Baked Potato with Cheddar and Bacon Bits

Campbell’s Chunky Baked Potato with Steak and Cheese vs. Slow Kettle Style Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda

“This is fancy and really nice,” Rhett said of Campbell’s Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda. In the end, they decided the steak, baked potato, and cheese were just too much, whereas the roasted red pepper soup had a pleasant subtlety.

Winner: Slow Kettle Style Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda

Slow Kettle Creamy Broccoli Cheddar Bisque vs. Campbell’s Chunky Spicy Quesadilla

“I would not even call that broccoli soup,” said Link, who was not pleased with the Broccoli Cheddar Bisque. They both way preferred the Chunky Spicy Quesadilla. “This is easy, man,” said Rhett, “This almost tastes like something you get at a restaurant.”

Winner: Campbell’s Chunky Spicy Quesadilla

Campbell’s Chunky Chicken Broccoli Cheese with Potato vs. Campbell’s Chunky Beer N’ Cheese with Beef & Bacon

This one was a dead heat, so it required a tiebreaker: The US Can Open. Basically, Rhett & Link competed to see who could open a can of soup fastest. Link won, so the Broccoli Cheese with Potato moved on.

Winner: Campbell’s Chunky Chicken Broccoli Cheese with Potato

Semifinals

Campbell’s Chunky Baked Potato with Cheddar and Bacon Bits  vs. Slow Kettle Style Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda

The subtle, sweet, cheesy flavor of the Red Pepper & Gouda Bisque won this round easily. Link said of the Chunky Baked Potato, “It’s not as good as you think it is.”

Winner: Slow Kettle Style Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda

Campbell’s Chunky Spicy Quesadilla vs. Campbell’s Chunky Chicken Broccoli Cheese with Potato

“This is complex, and interesting, and colorful…and there’s beans,” Rhett said of the Spicy Quesadilla, which won over the Broccoli Cheese for its depth of flavor.

Winner: Campbell’s Chunky Spicy Quesadilla

Finals

Slow Kettle Style Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda vs. Campbell’s Chunky Spicy Quesadilla

In the end, the boys decided that Campbell’s Chunky Spicy Quesadilla is creamier, beanier, and meatier than the Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda. “It’s not easy to know the winner,” said Rhett. In the end, they decided the winner brought a more well-rounded, hearty, flavorful soup. It’s got beans, chicken, cheese, and spice. What else is there? It’s the total package.

Winner: Campbell’s Chunky Spicy Quesadilla
