Rhett & Link Rank the Tastiest Hostess Cake Flavors

Hostess cakes are the perfect sweet treat when you don’t want to do any baking. They have all the deliciousness of a full cake stuffed into a small, portable package. Not all Hostess cakes are created equal, however, so Rhett & Link tasted them all to find the “Hostess with the Mostess.”

On the May 3, 2021, episode of Good Mythical Morning, Rhett & Link tasted every Hostess cake in Gut Check: Hostess Cakes Edition! They make it clear that, because “there are over 70 Hostess products”, they are narrowing it down to Hostess cakes specifically for this episode. Not only will you leave this episode of GMM wanting to eat Hostess snack cakes, but you’ll also wish a mysterious gloved hand was feeding it to you.

Chocolate Cupcake

Nostalgia was a huge factor when it came to the Hostess Cupcake. For Rhett, it “[brought] back memories” instantly. It went head-to-head with the Zinger, which Rhett actually preferred and Link thought tasted almost exactly the same. After going back and forth with bites, the Cupcake took the number three spot because it’s a classic!

Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake

The Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake “knocked [their] socks off.” Link described this cake as “damp” in a good way. The guys also thought this Hostess cake felt more mature than some of the others they tried. After one bite of it, Link proclaimed that they were now in “adult land.” Both Rhett & Link gave it scores in the high 80s and called it “the surprise” of the group.

Cream Cheese Coffee Cake

Rhett & Link “didn’t know it existed” before this episode of Gut Check, but they certainly will never forget it: The Cream Cheese Coffee Cake took home the title of “Hostess with the Mostess!” Rhett exclaimed “Oh lord!” the moment it touched his lips and gave it a whopping 90 points. In the end, after some whisper, Rhett & Link both confidently agreed that this version of the Hostess coffee cake was superior and deserved the top spot.
