In a year jam-packed with exciting new soda releases, returning soda releases, and new regional soda releases, it’s been tough to keep up with everything! Today we’re taking a look at a release from a brand that isn’t talked about too much here on Sporked: Shasta!
Shasta primarily sells their sodas in the western United States and has a WIDE selection of flavors (36 as of right now —let us know if we should try them all). The newest flavor in the lineup is Shasta Zero Sugar Cho•Co•lat De•lite. Shasta tells me that the flavor is “A bold burst of smooth, chocolatey flavor—decadent, guilt-free, and unlike anything you’ve sipped before.” Well, it’s time for us to be the judge of that! Shasta very graciously sent a few cans over for us to try, so let’s crack in and see how Cho•Co•lat De•lite is.
(Note: Shasta wanted me to make sure to say that while distribution of Cho•Co•lat De•lite is limited right now, the team is working very hard to get it on shelves where you can buy Shasta products!)
Pros: I am pleasantly surprised by this new Shasta flavor. Cho•Co•lat De•lite does what arguably any other competitor in the space has not been able to do: make a carbonated chocolate drink taste good. The chocolate flavor is decadent and creamy—almost like melted chocolate ice cream. There’s also a slightroot beer vibe and there are no harsh aftertastes (Cho•Co•lat De•lite is made with sucralose). This is one of the best zero sugar sodas I have tasted this year.
Cons: The only con is that I can’t buy Shasta in Ohio! I’m going to have to savor the rest of the cans I was sent because I will have to go on a trek to procure more of this fantastic soda! Let’s all collectively cross our fingers that this can be a nationwide staple soon.
Verdict: If you’re looking for a good dessert soda, add this to your list—whether you drink zero sugar sodas or not. Cho•Co•lat De•lite is bold and rich and I’ve never tasted a soda quite like it before.
