Our Official Review of Sprite Tropical Mix

I have a feeling the comments will be split between “I see this all the time” and “I haven’t seen this in ten years.” At some point between 2015 and now, Sprite Tropical Mix became “regionally available,” meaning individual Coca-Cola bottlers had the option to produce this soda if the local sales supported it. Many people around the U.S. likely haven’t seen this soda on a shelf for close to a decade!

That drought is about to end, though; Sprite is giving both Sprite Tropical Mix and Sprite Cherry a national rerelease this year. In advance of this huge moment for Spriteheads, we’re giving both of these not-quite-new flavors a fresh look ahead of their return to shelves everywhere. (Stay tuned for the Sprite Cherry review.)

Wait, isn’t this just Sprite Remix?

I’ll try to be brief. From 2002 to 2005, Sprite launched three flavors in the Remix line: Sprite Tropical Remix, Sprite BerryClear Remix, and Sprite Aruba Jam Remix (last seen as a Wendy’s exclusive Coca-Cola Freestyle mix in 2024). Sprite Tropical Remix stuck around the longest, being renamed to Sprite Tropical in 2015 and then renamed again to Sprite Tropical Mix in 2016. (That same year also saw the launch of the McDonald’s exclusive “MIX by Sprite Tropic Berry,” which added orange to the four other fruits already included in Sprite Tropical Mix.) This flavor has been around the block a few times, y’all. And here’s what it tastes like.

New (National) Sprite!

Sprite Tropical Mix

Pros: There’s a reason this Sprite flavor has (at least partially) been around for over 20 years—it’s good! The pineapple is a great addition to Sprite’s already very citrusy taste, and the light hint of strawberry sweetness keeps it from turning your face inside out. I prefer Sprite Chill, but I understand why Sprite Tropical Mix has earned a small cult following over the past couple decades.

Cons: I would love a little more “strawberry” in this allegedly-strawberry soda. That said, considering the official flavor description is “LEMON-LIME & TROPICAL FLAVORS,” they aren’t obligated to deliver any significant amount. Additionally, strawberries don’t scream “tropical.” As much as I’m tired of mango-flavored sodas, I’m surprised mango hasn’t replaced strawberry in this formula.
