The voting is over and the results are in! No, don’t worry, you didn’t miss the midterm elections. We’re talking about something much more important: Taco Bell’s Global Taco Vote! I’m joking, of course, I know and appreciate the gravitas of my civic duty as a registered voter. But that doesn’t change the fact that this is also very important. Because we now know which international taco will be heading to Taco Bell menus later this year.

Which international taco won the Global Taco Vote?

Taco Bell Rewards members were asked to vote between two tacos: the Kickin’ Chicken Taco from Thailand and the Butter Chicken Taco from India. After a week of voting, we now know the results: the Butter Chicken Taco has taken the title. According to The Takeout, it won with 64% of the vote. That’s pretty darn decisive.

What is in the winning taco?

The Butter Chicken Taco features shredded, roasted chicken that’s been simmered in a spiced tomato-cream sauce, onion lettuce, and cheddar cheese. It’s not stuffed into a traditional taco shell, instead it comes in a fried chalupa shell.

When will this new taco be available?

There’s no set date at the moment. All we know is that it’s coming nationwide to Taco Bell locations later this year.

What are people saying?

Personally, I’m hyped. I’ve had butter chicken tacos before and I have loved them. But others seem to be more cautiously optimistic. “I really hope its good 🥲,” one Redditor wrote. “I’ve had the real thing cooked in a home of Pakistanis. Might be the best thing I’ve ever tasted.” Others are nervous about the potential cost, predicting that it could cost upwards of $7. Will it be worth the potential cost? Only time will tell, but you better bet we’ll be on the front lines waiting to try it.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
