Taco Bell, we’re begging you: Slow down. We can’t keep up with everything you’re doing! Our fingers are aching from all the furious typing we’re cranking out to cover your endless new menu items!

It may sound like we’re being facetious, but honestly, we’re kinda not. Taco Bell’s first few months of 2026 have been a whirlwind of announcements and new menu drops. Just yesterday, we brought you word that the restaurant is launching three new menu items on March 19, and last month, we reported that it’s testing a massive nineteen new goodies. Those goodies didn’t even include its new Shredded Beef Street Chalupas, which we just found out (courtesy of @snackolator) is being trialled in Detroit right now. Is there no end to this urge to supply us with new food? Here’s what we know about this new barbacoa-inspired bite, and its variations.

Shredded Beef Street Chalupas: We’ll Take a Dozen, Thanks

Taco Bell’s new barbacoa-prompted item looks to be a variation on its standard chalupa, but with a lot more oomph. A standard order consists of two chalupas, each of them with a cheesy, double-stacked shell, stuffed with shredded beef and topped with creamy jalapeño sauce, onions, and cilantro. Its Shredded Beef Street Chalupas are a bit pricier than its standard fare – an order will set you back between $5.99 and $6.99, depending on where you are – but they definitely feel a bit more upmarket than some of the chain’s other items.

Word on the street is that the Shredded Beef Street Chalupas will come on their own, or you can get them in a Discovery Luxe Box for $9. This gives you your chalupas, a Cheesy Bean & Rice Burrito, Cinnamon Twists, and a medium Mountain Dew Baja Midnight. God, we’re hungry all of a sudden!

Quit Teasing Me: How Does It Taste?

Well, as this menu item is only being tested in and around Detroit, responses so far have been localized and thus, pretty few and far between. However, those who have tried it have said that…it may not be as good as we hope. “The beef tasted like a pot roast and there just wasn’t a whole lot of flavor going on,” said a Michigan-based Redditor who had taken the plunge. “Also wasn’t really a fan of that extra tortilla they put on the outside.” This customer went on to give the Shredded Beef Street Chalupa a pretty measly 3/10. Yikes.

For folks who are excited about the variation on the Taco Bell form that this item represents, though, don’t worry: It’s testing a lot of other things in that vein, too. The chain is currently trialling its Cantina Bowls, which have popped up in the Dallas area, and which are a collection of slow-roasted chicken, rice, beans, fresh veggies, pico de gallo, guacamole, and Chalupa chips. It’s a brighter take on Taco Bell’s fare, and we’re in.
