The Rumor Is True: Everything About Taco Bell’s New Duolingo Sauce

For a few weeks, Taco Bell fans had been trying to figure out what was going on with a mysterious “Duolingo sauce.” Now it’s official. Taco Bell and Duolingo really are teaming up, and the result is a brand-new sauce called Duo Habanero Sauce.

It arrives October 6th for Global Taco Day, giving Taco Bell fans another reason to celebrate with a taco in one hand and a sauce packet in the other. 

The New Sauce Has Some Serious Heat

The new sauce is a limited-edition creation made specifically for the Taco Bell and Duolingo collaboration. 

Taco Bell describes the flavor as bright and tangy, with fruity notes and habanero heat. The heat is expected to build as the sauce is eaten, so it should bring more than just a spicy kick.  

Taco Bell has not released a specific ingredient list or Scoville rating for the new sauce, so there is no official word yet on exactly how hot Duo Habanero will be.

The Sauce Packets Are Getting A Language Lesson

Taco Bell has a long history of putting cute sayings on its sauce packets, and Duo Habanero is giving that idea an international upgrade.

The limited-edition packets will feature taco-themed sayings in nine languages. English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese, German, Korean, Mandarin and Japanese are all part of the lineup.

Taco Bell and Duolingo are using one very simple word as the star of Global Taco Day: “taco.” The companies point out that “taco” is recognizable in more than 30 languages. So while someone might need Duolingo to learn how to order a complicated meal in another language, “taco” apparently needs very little translating.

Taco Bell Rewards Members Can Get A Free Month Of Duolingo

There is more to the collaboration than a sauce packet. From September 30th through October 6th, Taco Bell Rewards members can unlock a free month of Super Duolingo. That gives eligible users a chance to try Duolingo’s premium service without paying for the first month.

There is also a limited-edition prize for fans who want something they can actually put on a shelf. Taco Bell and Duolingo are giving away Taco Bell x Duo plushies, featuring the famous green owl in Taco Bell-inspired gear. The campaign includes 1,000 limited-edition plushies across participating markets worldwide.

Duo Is Taking Over A Taco Bell In New York

The collaboration is also getting its own Taco Bell event. On October 6th, Duo and his friends will take over the Taco Bell Midtown Cantina at 976 6th Ave. in New York City from 3 to 4:30PM ET.

The event will serve up tacos and Duo Habanero Sauce, along with taco-themed language lessons and plenty of Duolingo-inspired fun.

How To Get Duo Habanero Sauce

U.S. Taco Bell fans will not have to solve a language puzzle to get their hands on the new sauce. Starting October 6th, customers can get one free Duo Habanero Sauce packet with the purchase of a Doritos Locos Taco at participating Taco Bell locations. Extra packets will cost 20 cents each, while supplies last.

The sauce will also launch on October 6th at participating Taco Bell restaurants in Canada, Australia, China, India, Spain and the U.K. Availability and promotions can vary by country.
