Taco Bell is pretty famous for getting rid of fan-favorite items, just to leave their customers confused and disappointed. But, as it turns out, today is a new day. And with the rumored return of the Baja Sauce, Taco Bell fans are filled with a new wave of hope for their long-time favorite menu items.

The Baja sauce, otherwise known as the Pepper Jack Sauce, was originally part of the Baja Gorditas and Chalupas. And, while a not-so-accurate representation of the sauce has been available over the years at grocery store retailers, Taco Bell removed the fan favorite sauce from the menu, replacing it with spicy ranch.

The Fan Favorite Sauce

For now, the return of this sauce has not been confirmed by Taco Bell themselves. But, just over a week ago a Taco Bell employee of over 20 years posted onto Reddit a picture of the elusive Pepper Jack Sauce with the “best by” date of September 2026. The employee said that it still tastes the same as the classic favorite. According to the Redditor, the sauce is the “same creamy texture, same just-enough kick, same taste. I was skeptical at first too but it’s true.”

When the Baja sauce actually left the menu is widely conjectured online. Some sources say it left the menu in 2014, while this Taco Bell employee says it has been 28 years. Regardless, the response to this rumor is the same: people are ecstatic.

Comments on the Reddit thread plead for this rumor to come to fruition. And, many customers noted that the removal of the sauce from the menu directly impacted their desire to continue frequenting the establishments. The sauce is such a favorite, there was even a change.org petition to bring the sauce back with hundreds of signatures.

It’s Still Just A Rumor

Yes, our hopes are up. But it’s important to remember that the return of the Pepper Jack Sauce has not been confirmed yet. We also don’t know what, if any, new menu items will be using the sauce if it does return. But a sauce comeback like this could also mean more fan-favorites are returning to the menu (how exciting!) in the near future. And that September 2026 date looks promising. For now, all we can do is wait and see if the rumor will become reality―and if it does, how long we’ll be able to keep it around this time.
