We love it when fast food restaurants do weird things. Collaborations you’d never expect, strange novelty menu items, limited-time promotions that make little sense: Yes, the cynical amongst us might call things like this a little frivolous, but they’re fun! Life can be fun, and fast food can be too. So when Burger King does something like drop a chocolate burger or turn its buns into completely unappetizing colors, we’re here for it. We’re not gonna be eating it. But we’re here for it.

Imagine our delight, then, when we found out that it had released a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Burger with a lurid green bun. We’re sold! The only catch? You have to get a flight to get it.

Heroes in a Green Bun

Burger King’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are, according to @snackolator, currently on sale in its restaurants in Sri Lanka. BK’s on a bit of a Ninja Turtle kick recently: At the start of February, it launched its “World of TMNT” toys with its kids’ meals, giving you or your little ‘uns the chance to collect nine toys. The various characters from the TV show are available in action figure and spinning top form. Like we said, life can be fun.

BK Sri Lanka, though, is taking it one step further with these green buns, which we do have to admit look ever so slightly radioactive. We also hope that they don’t taste green (we don’t think they will, but it has to be said). As in other countries, you can grab this one with its TMNT toys, and you can also get it with a chicken or a beef sandwich.

Watch Out, Burger King – Don’t Repeat Your Mistakes

As we said, we’re always here for it when a fast food restaurant does something left-of-center – as long as there are no worrying side effects. However, in the comments in @snackolator’s post about the burgers, some people offered a word of warning to Burger King. “Remember what happened with the Halloween Whopper,” said one person, alluding back to the infamous moment in 2015 when the restaurant put out a sandwich with a black hamburger bun…which then caused people to have number twos that were bright green. It was probably one of the more embarrassing moments in Burger King’s history, and while some people chuckle about it now, at the time it wasn’t such a laughing matter.

No word yet on whether this burger will have such dramatic side effects, though, and hopefully, the restaurant’s earned from its past errors. It’s also timing this collaboration well: This franchise has been on a bit of a roll lately, with a new season of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dropping a few months ago on Paramount+, and a new film coming out next year. Until that movie drops, you’ll have to make do with this sandwich (if you can get to Sri Lanka, that is). Now if Burger King could just stop putting meat on its plant-based burgers, then we’d be all set.
