Trader Joe’s New Yellow Curry Chips Might Be Their Boldest Flavor Yet

Y’all seen Trader Joe’s new potato chip flavor? It comes in a bright orange and yellow bag, so it’s kinda hard to miss. I swear, ever since they released their blue cheese chips (our favorite TJ’s product of 2025), I’ve been paying attention to the store’s chip aisle like never before. They proved themselves capable of greatness, and now the world is watching.

So world, say hello to TJ’s Thai Style Yellow Curry Flavored Potato Chips. I tried them to see how they measure up to my (new and exacting) standards for Trader Joe’s chips. Here’s my take.

Thai Style Yellow Curry Flavored Potato Chips

Pros: Hey, this has a really impressive, authentic yellow curry flavor, not just a smattering of spices. You can taste the cumin, curry powder, touch of lime, light chili pepper heat, and yes, lemongrass. They went heavy on the lemongrass, which I love. It’s very unique, and super satisfying with a side of tzatziki

Cons: Something was missing here for me, and after a period of deep reflection (I take my job seriously), I realized I would have liked them to taste a little more savory and, dare I say, creamy. Curry balances its natural richness with cooling, refreshing aromatics, and while these chips certainly finesse the spices well, they’re missing that richness. “Ariana, how can a chip taste creamy??” Chips taste creamy all the time. Sometimes by way of butteriness or cheesiness or buttermilkiness or sour creaminess. I’m a far, far cry from a food scientist, so please don’t ask me how these could taste creamy in a coconut milk Thai curry way, but if we can send Katy Perry to the moon, it can’t be that crazy of an ask. 

Verdict: Trader Joe’s new potato chip flavor should absolutely be in rotation at your next party. It’s new and fun and easy to “oooh” and “ahhh” over. But on its own, you might get a little sick of it before you finish the bag.
