Finally, my time spent professionally listening into Trader Joe’s fan pages and social accounts has paid off on a personal level, because I just got word that one of my favorite desserts at Trader Joe’s is back on the shelves. Welcome back, Passion Fruit Meringue Tartelettes, I’ve missed you.

What are Trader Joe’s Passion Fruit Meringue Tartelettes?

Each box contains two tartelettes. And each tartelette is pastry perfection. You get a buttery pastry shell filled with passion fruit curd, topped with a dollop of meringue. It’s kind of like a lemon tart—just passion fruit instead of lemon. They come pre-baked, so all you have to do is let them thaw for a couple of hours in the fridge.

Why are Trader Joe’s Passion Fruit Meringue Tartelettes so good?

Here’s the thing: I don’t really love dessert. I adore a good milkshake and I will absolutely crush a bag of sour Haribo gummies, but composed desserts? Meh. I’ll take the cheese plate. So, when I first tasted this, I came in with pretty low expectations. But wow. The zip, the zing, the pure, authentic passion fruit flavor of the curd. It’s incredible! The pastry is buttery and crumbly. The meringue is shockingly meringue-y. It’s not just whipped cream or frosting or something. It’s genuine meringue and it harmonizes so beautifully with the tart, tropical curd. It even has some toasty color on top like it was hit with a blowtorch. This Trader Joe’s dessert is seriously better than most of what you would pay, like, $18 for at a restaurant. And it costs $5.49 for two!

Where and when can you find Trader Joe’s Passion Fruit Meringue Tartelettes?

You can find these precious babies in the frozen dessert aisle at Trader Joe’s. But you can only find them in the spring. So run. RUN! Trader Joe’s isn’t sentimental when it comes to ripping our favorite products out of our hands when it suits them.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
