Trader Joe’s Peppermint Crunch Popcorn Shouldn’t Work, but It Does

If you’ve looked at the packaging for Trader Joe’s Peppermint Crunch Popcorn, you probably wondered the same thing I did: This is…popcorn? Well, sort of. There is popcorn, albeit hidden under what might be the highest concentration of sugar legally allowed by the FDA. Seriously, you have to get past four forms of sugar on the ingredients list to find popcorn a few lines down. This is like caramel corn on sugary steroids. But hear me out: It’s actually good.

Trader Joe’s Peppermint Crunch Popcorn

Pros: What we have here are fat popcorn puffs generously coated in a crunchy coating. Some kernels taste like white chocolate and the others have a nice, cocoa-forward dark chocolate flavor, but they both have plenty of cooling peppermint to make this a distinctly wintry snack. The sugary crunch is highly satisfying and kept me eating it by the handful. This is the perfect thing to munch on while you watch terrible Hallmark Christmas movies.

Cons: I’ll admit that peppermint and popcorn sound like strange bedfellows, and I’m certain the combo will be a little bit weird for some people. Also, I have to stress how much sugar is in here. There are 21. Grams. Of added sugars. In each serving. Do not let RFK Jr. see this or he will personally go to every TJ’s he can find to take them off the shelves. But if you like sweet, crunchy snacks with a refreshing dose of peppermint oil, go get this before it goes away.
