My favorite boujee ice cream brand just did something really adorable. Van Leeuwen, the artisan ice cream brand known for its French-style pints, has expanded their line-up include, wait for it…. bonbons. Little French ice cream spheres of creamy, cloudy goodness you can hold in the palm of your hand (don’t do that). They’re so cute, I want to store them in my pocket like a new kind of Pokémon and throw them at strangers who look like they’re having a bad day. Bonbons, I choose you!

Van Leeuwen is your favorite ice cream brand, Ariana? *rolls eyes*
Sass me all you want for having good taste. Yeesh. I get that their ice cream ain’t cheap, but you get what you pay for with Van Leeuwen. Their ice cream tastes like what it is: straight from a trendy Brooklyn ice cream truck that made it big and now sells on a national scale. This is the American dream, people. We are lucky to have this brand in grocery stores everywhere.
Really, their ice cream is so lush, with high butterfat content and a custard base that forms a flavor depth and richness I won’t ever recover from. But it’s not, like, too sweet and rich. Take it from me, the girl who only tolerates sugar in small doses. This isn’t the Crumbl cookie of ice cream, where you immediately feel bad after eating it. But I’m getting off-topic.
Bonbons! That’s why you’re here. These are the two new Van Leeuwen flavors:
- Orange & Cream Bonbons: orange coating on the outside, vanilla ice cream on the inside
- Strawberry & Cream Bonbons: strawberry coating on the outside, vanilla ice cream on the inside, and purportedly similar in flavor to Van Leeuwen’s Strawberry Shortcake Bars
Where can you buy them?
So far, we’ve found them at Kroger-affiliated stores (Ralphs, Dillons, Smith’s, and the like). I haven’t heard any news that these are a Kroger-exclusive launch, but I also don’t see them in any other stores right now, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
