There’s been a lot of fuss around the new Bojangles sandwiches that were released this summer. Between the hash brown bun of the Carolina Crunch sandwich and putting ranch on a biscuit like on the Cajun Crunch, we can understand why. Inevitably, we were left with a distinct curiosity about how these sandwiches would perform. Because while they could be delicious, they also sound like they’re a bit of a monstrosity. We had to know how they’d actually do, so we got some for ourselves to give you our official review. Without further ado, this is what we thought about the two new Bojangles sandwiches.

Our Thoughts On The Carolina Crunch
The Carolina Crunch sandwich takes Bojangles’ famous Bo-Rounds and enlarges them to the size of burger buns. Bo-Rounds are hash browns that are generally just a it bigger than the size of quarters. To me, they’re an essential part of any Bojangles run. Made bigger and used as the bun of a whole sandwich though, I had my doubts. I mean, part of the greatness of a Bo-Round is its greasy tenderness which I thought might impose some structure and flavor issues.
To my delight and pleasure, the Bo-Tato Rounds used as the bun were lovely. They didn’t fall apart like I feared they might and their juxtaposition of crunch and creamy tender potato on the inside was a joy. I guess I should have expected that the pairing with the standard egg sandwich filling would be great considering I always chase a bite of a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit from Bojangles with a Bo-Round anyhow, but it was still better than I could’ve expected. It was actually almost lighter and easier to eat that one of their regular homemade biscuits because it’s not as dry and doughy.
An unexpected refresher for myself came from the eggs and bacon themselves though. You can just tell that they’re being freshly cooked in a way that you just can’t get at any other fast food chain breakfast. The bacon is well cooked and crispy—none of that soggy stuff that’s still pink. And the eggs are tender and delicate. I’d order this again, easy peasy. Just be aware that it’s not the lightest breakfast, but I’m pretty sure that was a given.
Bojangles Brought Ranch To Biscuits…
I love ranch just as much as the next American, but I’ll be honest, I do think it’s overused. Not everything needs ranch, but when it’s good, it’s great. So I came at this biscuit with an open mind. To me, the regular Bojangles Cajun Chicken Biscuit is a 10/10. But could ranch and bacon make it even better? Unfortunately not, but mainly for the reason of it covering up some of the flavor of the perfected chicken itself. The seasonings of the Cajun Chicken Filet and ranch were competing, rather than bring out the best in each other.
And you couldn’t really taste the bacon with everything else going on. It could’ve been a lot worse, though. They luckily didn’t overwhelm the sandwich with ranch which not only helped its structural integrity, but just made it less sloppy than I’d anticipated overall. It’s still delicious and I’d eat the whole thing. But when competing with the Bojangles gold standard, it’s gonna take a miracle to come out on top.
