We Tried Land O’Lakes New Pumpkin Pie Spice Butter Spread

I may be from the same state as Land O’Lakes but they have their work cut out for them. I’m a late convert to the pumpkin pie spice bandwagon. I’ve still got some skepticism in my core. I’m an open but fair critic when it comes to the stuff. So how will their pumpkin pie spice butter spread fare? Let’s find out.

Our Verdict

Pros: It’s rare to get this excited about a product from the very first bite. It’s probably due to the borderline overwhelming hit of pumpkin spice that each bite delivers but I’ll take it over the alternative. I wonder if it’s all taste or my brain tricking me into how powerful it is because of the vibrant orange color this butter spread has. It may be unnatural, but boy, is it pleasing to look at.

If I could only recommend one pumpkin spice product of anything I’ve tried so far this year, I think it’d be it. It’s not that this is better than every single pumpkin spice product out there. It’s just that I think the opportunities to utilize all that flavor are the best fit to a powerful butter spread like this. Think of the things we could do with it.

The obvious choice is to add it onto a piece of toast, be it plain white bread or cinnamon toast. Then the next option comes into baking. Slather it over a warm coffee cake muffin. Fill in all those nooks and crannies. Hold on though, what about pumpkin pie spice cinnamon rolls? Just toss in a little extra sugar for the filling and have yourself a field day with those beauties. Heck, even use it to make a buttercream icing with it to top things off? Now we’re talking.

Cons: My Midwestern nature does have a little hesitation when it comes to having to call something a “butter spread.” This typically means there’s less fat and more water. Which does turn me off when it comes to using it for things like baking specifically. That said, it’s the nature of how our food is designed and all things considered, it’s still a delicious product. So I guess I’m a new convert to butter spreads. Sorry, Kerrygold.

Another con is something that just comes with most pumpkin pie spice products in general. Land O’Lakes tells us straight on the packaging that this is a limited time product. It won’t last forever. Except if I stock up my freezer with enough to last me all year long. I bet they didn’t see that coming! At least L.O.L. has the decency to warn us of its impending disappearance which I am thankful for.
