We Tried The Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Cookie From Crumbl

As it turns out, despite our ritualistic trips to Crumbl Cookies for weekly test test, we never actually tried their chocolate chip cookies since they reworked the recipe. And, what better time to indulge in a zhuzh-ed up classic thnn the week of Crumbl’s birthday. This week, the Crumbl cookie menu is all themed around and dedicated to celebrating nine years of Crumbl cookie, and their Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Cookie does just that.

For many people who might not be a fan of cake, a cookie cake is welcome and delicious option for celebrations. So it only makes sense that a cookie company would release their own variation on a cookie cake for their birthday-themed menu. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Cookie takes their new and improved chocolate chip cookie dough and bakes it up skillet-style in a single-portion size. After it’s baked, it’s served with swirls of chocolate fudge frosting and confetti sprinkles. It sounds like a real party, and we just bought ourselves a ticket in. Our Official Review

Pros — In the best way possible, the fudge frosting on this cookie tastes like the most delicious version of a canned chocolate frosting from the grocery store. The sprinkles, both in texture and color, only drove that point home in a way that it felt distinctly nostalgic and familiar altogether. Plus, the sprinkles were a nice contrast in each bite’s texture.

Beyond the taste of the frosting though, the texture was absolutely phenomenal as well. It was fluffy and rich with little bubbles of aeration, but it still had that lush creaminess and fudginess that you would want from a chocolate frosting. It almost leaned more into a fluffy, whipped ganache territory.

Cons — Where the frosting and decoration excel for this cookie, the base chocolate chip cookie almost ruined the experience. It was just off. The texture was crunchy and dry all the way through to the middle. And, the taste was no redemption either. The cookie itself had the flavor of a grocery store cookie that has those chemicals in them to make them stay chewy. Considering Crumbl cookies are baked same day, the presence of that flavor feels totally out of place and disappointing.

The chocolate itself in the cookie was good, but you couldn’t really taste it with all of the chocolate frosting. Plus the combination of such a rich cookie with such a rich frosting is excessive in a way that doesn’t feel like you could even consider eating the full cookie. We had a high hopes for this newly developed chocolate chip cookie recipe and are sad to say that we won’t be depending on it for any late night cravings anytime soon.
