With Halloween behind us now, Crumbl has turned their sights towards some more seasonally appropriate flavors for Thanksgiving and winter it seems. Of course, you can’t think of the cooler months and the treats that come into our lives subsequently without thinking of hot chocolate. But Crumbl has set their focus towards hot chocolate’s trendier, “cooler” sister for a source of inspiration: frozen hot chocolate.

This cookie is made with a rich chocolate cookie dough base, a layer of silky hot chocolate-inspired chocolate mousse, and mini marshmallows for garnish. But none of that guarantees that it’s going to be delicious, so we figured we’d try it out ourselves. Without further ado, this is our official Sporked review.
Our Official Thoughts
Pros — When we first bit into this cookie, it simply felt like too much. It’s sweet, heavy, and a lot to handle, but in the end you’re left with an absolutely fabulous chocolate flavor. Frozen hot chocolate, maybe not so much, but the flavor of the cookie and frosting themselves was rich, and oh-so chocolatey. If you love chocolate as much as we here at Sporked do, then you’re probably really going to like this cookie since there’s really not much else going on. That said, we’d love to see this flavor come back as we get closer to December in a peppermint bark-inspired variation.
Plus, there is really something to be said about the way that the hot cocoa-inspired mousse comes across. Its creaminess and chilled qualities actual make it reminiscent of the treat this cookie takes inspiration, and we really appreciate that.
Cons — Unfortunately, there’s a lot more to criticize about this cookie than praise. For starters, we already alluded to the fact that it was very heavy, but I’m not quite sure heavy is a strong enough adjective to describe this cookie. It’s more dense and also somehow dry than any cookie or brownie in a way that makes the classic underbaked quality of Crumbl’s cookies both confusing and disappointing.
Additionally, the balance between the cookie and the mousse on this cookie was way off. The cookie was so thick that it completely overwhelmed the mousse, and considering that the mousse is kind of the whole point of the flavor it just highlighted how unfortunate the cookie base was to begin with.
And this is certainly a minor critique, but still one we thought was worth mentioning: cold marshmallows have a terrible texture. They get stuck in your teeth and disrupt the eating experience, and yet the issue was totally avoidable. Instead of the marshmallows sitting in the fridge with the rest of the cookie so that it could be served, they simply could be sprinkled on as the cookies are ordered. Otherwise, one of the key components we were actually looking forward to in this seemingly straightforward cookie become a distinctly unpleasant addition instead.
