It was only a matter of time before food companies started getting on the lookalike contest train. Lookalike contests have been all over the internet (and, by their very nature, in the physical world) for a couple of years now, but it feels like we’re reached fever pitch with them lately. Kacey Musgraves (who crashed her own contest), Jacob Elordi, and many more celebrities besides have been the subjects of these competitions in recent weeks, and with summer almost here, we’ll definitely see more of them soon.

One of them is coming from Wendy’s. The restaurant chain is hosting its own lookalike contest – and the winner gets burgers for a year. Happen to be in New York City this coming Tuesday, May 26? Now’s your chance.
Just Don’t Forget The Pigtails
Wendy’s, which announced its lookalike contest on Instagram and followed up with a bona fide press release, is hosting this event for World Redhead Day. On Tuesday, May 26, it’s inviting fans of the brand who happen to look like the Wendy’s Girl in its famous logo to head down to Seaport Square and try their luck at being named the closest match. If they win, they get free Dave’s Singles for a year – although in the press release, Wendy’s does state that this will be given “in the form of cash value of one Dave’s Single per week, for 52 weeks.” So it’s not quite unlimited, but hey, there are worse prizes out there.
As for why Wendy’s has opted to do this, apart from the promotion it brings the brand and its participation in a nifty trend, it also says that it’s doing it in honor of redheads everywhere. “Redheads make up just 4% of the U.S. population, but they’re impossible to miss,” it states. “They bring a bold, unmistakable energy that turns heads and leaves an impression –- the kind of presence Wendy’s has always admired and recognized as part of its own story.” You heard it from the horse’s mouth!
And How Will The Competition Work?
We’re glad you asked. First off, contestants are to showcase their look: Wendy’s says that the first 50 people who officially enter the contest onsite will be eligible to take part. Then, contestants have to read out “their best social media worthy post channeling the brand’s witty, playful tone for National Hamburger Day.”
That’s one way to narrow things down, huh? Of those contestants, up to five will be chosen, and they then have to perform an original commercial in the style of Wendy’s. Wow, this is pretty hands-on, guys. If you get through all that, though, those burgers are yours. In between its new menu items, its free merch drops, and its lookalike contest, it’s been a busy old time for Wendy’s.
