Wendy’s isn’t the kind of place that inspires intense passion. No fast food joints are, really. The whole point of fast food is that it’s easygoing and hits the spot, and while some places and items are absolutely delicious, people don’t tend to go to bat for them that hard – especially when the items in question are relatively simple.
Sometimes, though, simple is best. At least, that’s what Wendy’s is finding with its two new menu items. Its new Cheesy Bacon Cheeseburger and Chicken Tenders Ranch Wrap may not reinvent the wheel, but early reviews seem to indicate that they’re real winners. Why? Let’s find out.
Bacon, Cheese, and Beef – What Could Be Better?
Wendy’s is dropping its Cheesy Bacon Cheeseburger and Chicken Tenders Ranch Wrap on February 16, the day after it celebrates singles with its $1 burger. There’s no word yet on how long they’ll be around, but these limited-edition items aren’t destined to stay forever (well, so far, at least – if they’re big hits, they may well make it to the main menu).
That’s a shame, as they certainly sound pretty good, if not exactly revolutionary. Its Cheesy Bacon Cheeseburger is a double-dairy affair, with one of Wendy’s square patties topped with American cheese and cheddar cheese sauce, as well as three strips of Applewood-smoked bacon. Its Chicken Tenders Ranch Wrap also doubles up with two chicken tenders, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and ranch, bound in a flour tortilla. These are the kind of items that will hit the spot when you need something easygoing but very effective.
Doing the Basics Well Is Working for Wendy’s
With no general release of these items for a few days, all we have to go on so far is the word of reviewers. Well, people love these things. “Wendy’s new Cheesy Bacon Cheeseburger and Chicken Tenders Ranch Wrap may look unassuming, but they’ve easily skyrocketed into some of the best fast food I’ve tried so far this year,” stated an early review on Allrecipes. In the burger, the dual cheese approach apparently works incredibly well, giving it a new level of flavor, while the Chicken Tenders Ranch Wrap feels generous and substantial, with a lovely spiciness to it. We’re getting hungry…
Wendy’s customers are also liking the look of these new menu items, which bodes well for their debut.
“I actually think these will be good. Everyone wants extraordinary new menu items, but sometimes we just need the more typical stuff, honestly,” said a Redditor in response to the announcement. To be totally frank, they’re kinda right: Menu items like Burger King’s chocolate burger might be eye-catching, but do you really want to make them a regular order? Probably not. These new Wendy’s items, though, are the kind of thing we can see ourselves drifting back to every time. Only time will tell whether everyone likes them as much as reviewers, though.
