Lay’s fans have fallen in love with a bag of potato chips that doesn’t even exist! A concept image for Lay’s Dipped in Hazelnut Spread was shared by the brand on social media and at first glance, many thought it was real.

But it’s only a Lay’s Fantasy Flavor, not an actual chip headed to store shelves. That hasn’t stopped people from begging the brand to make it happen.

Lay’s Has Fans Dreaming Again

Lay’s shared the concept on social media as part of its Fantasy Flavor series, showing a Lay’s Dipped in Hazelnut Spread bag with potato chips that looked like they had been dipped in a jar of creamy hazelnut spread.

Unlike Lay’s real limited-edition releases, Fantasy Flavors are simply fun concepts designed to spark conversation rather than announce new products. As of now, Lay’s has not revealed any plans to manufacture or sell the hazelnut spread chips.

That didn’t stop hundreds of people from hoping the announcement was real. One X user wrote, “Please tell me these are real because I need like 20 bags ASAP.” Another added, “Would definitely try if these are real.” And Instagram is no different, with tons of people asking “where I can get one?”

Those reactions make a lot of sense. Salty potato chips and sweet hazelnut spread already make a pretty popular snack combo at home. Plenty of people have dipped plain chips into chocolate spread for years, so seeing Lay’s turn that idea into a packaged product doesn’t seem all that crazy. In fact, it almost feels like something that should already exist.

Lay’s Has Been Having Fun With Fantasy Flavors

This isn’t the first time Lay’s has teased fans with flavors they’ll never get to taste. Back on July 14th, Lay’s shared four World Cup-inspired Fantasy Flavors to celebrate the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinalists. The lineup included Spanish-style Paella, French-style Escargot, English-style Fish & Chips, and Argentinian-style Empanadas.

Just like the hazelnut spread chips, those flavors were never meant to become real products. They were simply creative concepts designed to get people talking online. And I think that’s mission accomplished.

Could Fans Talk This Flavor Into Existence?

Sometimes the internet gets so excited about an idea that brands decide to make it happen. There’s no sign that Lay’s plans to do that here, but the response has been impossible to ignore. The comment section is packed with people asking if the chips are real, saying they’d buy multiple bags, or admitting they were disappointed after learning the truth. That’s probably the biggest compliment a fake product can get.

For now, Lay’s Dipped in Hazelnut Spread is staying in the Fantasy Flavor collection. But if enough people keep asking for it, maybe—just maybe—one day Lay’s will decide this sweet-and-salty concept deserves to become a real snack.
