Isn’t it just like an American corporation to launch their Halloween flavor immediately after the Fourth of July? Well, yes―and Mountain Dew has taken it in stride. And this year’s launch feels a little familiar.

Instead of the Voo-Dew flavor that has been released every year since 2019 for the autumn holiday, Mountain Dew decided to go with their Trolli collaboration for the second year in a row. And we won’t have to wait long to see if it’s better than its first release. Hitting shelves in late August to early September, Mountain Dew x Trolli are releasing their collab with a change of flavor that was only rumored until now.

A Familiar Collab

Last year, the Mountain Dew and Trolli collaboration was a mixed bag. The flavor was called Mountain Dew Zero Sugar x Trolli Cherry Lemon and was made to taste like a sour gummy worm. Here at Sporked, we loved it. Loyal Dew fans? Not so much. This was also only the second flavor in Mountain Dew’s history to be released exclusively as a zero sugar variety.

This year’s flavor takes a more tropical turn. Still inspired by Trolli flavors, the Mango Pineapple Punch Mountain Dew riffs off of the mango-pineapple Trolli Sour Duo Crawlers. Of course, the flavor combo is nothing new―and it’s far from the most interesting Trolli flavor combo they could’ve gone with, like the strawberry-grape or orange-lime combos. Mango-pineapple is nothing we haven’t seen before, but that also means the flavor feels like a safe bet for this year’s Halloween launch.

What To Expect

Playing off of what the collaboration got right last year, this year’s drop will have a similar style of bold and colorful artwork on its packaging. With mango, pineapple, and strawberry illustrations on the box, the designs feel deeply representative of a Trolli and Mountain Dew crossover. Perhaps the best part of the packaging design are the personified Trolli gummy worms littering the illustration.

But the most exciting news about this launch is that it won’t be exclusively zero sugar. This year, the Trolli Mountain Dew will be available in both full sugar and zero sugar varieties. The drinks will also be sold as both 20-ounce bottles and 12-pack cans. The launch is expected to hit Target stores nationwide in the late summer, adding to the list of Halloween products being released ahead of schedule this year.
