Whataburger is taking one of its fan-favorite burgers and giving it the chicken sandwich treatment. The Bacon Wrangler Double is back on August 18th, but this time it has a new partner: the Bacon Wrangler Chicken, loaded with bacon, cheese, crispy onion strings, pickles, and smoky chipotle aioli.

And they have my attention.
The Bacon Wrangler Is Back
The Bacon Wrangler Double first showed up last summer and clearly people liked it enough for Whataburger to bring it back. The burger comes with two 100% beef patties, American and Monterey Jack cheeses, bacon, crispy onion strings, pickles, and smoky chipotle aioli, all piled onto toasted buns.
So no, Whataburger isn’t exactly going for subtle here.
There’s also a Jr. size if you want the same two beef patties without committing to the full-size burger. Although once you’re already ordering a burger covered in bacon, cheese, crispy onion strings, pickles, and chipotle aioli, I’m not sure “subtle” is really the goal.
The New Chicken Sandwich
The new Bacon Wrangler Chicken takes the same basic flavor combination and swaps the beef for chicken.
You can choose between a Whatachick’n, Spicy Chicken, or Grilled Chicken filet, each topped with Monterey Jack cheese, bacon, crispy onion strings, pickles, and the Bacon Wrangler’s smoky chipotle aioli.
In other words, if you looked at the Bacon Wrangler Double last year and thought, “This sounds good, but I wish it were chicken,” Whataburger has been listening. And I have to admit, the crispy onion strings, pickles, bacon, and smoky chipotle aioli sound like a pretty convincing combination on a chicken sandwich.
Here’s When To Get Them
Both Bacon Wrangler options arrive at participating Whataburger locations starting August 18th and will only be around for a limited time. The Bacon Wrangler Double starts at $9.99, while the Bacon Wrangler Chicken starts at $7.99. Prices vary by location.
If you’re already a Whataburger regular, this gives you a choice between sticking with the returning beef burger or seeing what all those same toppings can do with chicken.
Personally, I’m having a hard time deciding which sounds better. The beef burger has the advantage of being the original, but crispy onion strings, bacon, pickles, and chipotle aioli on a chicken filet? That’s a pretty strong argument for the newcomer―especially if you’re someone who always picks chicken over beef when a fast-food menu gives you the option.
Either way, August 18th is looking like a good day to be very hungry.
