Seltzer water has come a long way from its hint-of-lime origins. You can get hydrated with water that tastes like pretty much anything nowadays. Need proof? Party water brand Liquid Death just came out with Hot Fudge Sundae sparkling water.
Made in collaboration with the hipster ice cream darlings from Van Leeuwen, this new Liquid Death flavor is a limited edition flavor (“very” limited edition, according to the brand). It’s sweetened with a touch of agave nectar, flavored to taste like a hot fudge sundae, and it’s vegan. No ice cream was harmed in the making of this sparkling water.

Liquid Death Hot Fudge Sundae Flavored Sparkling Water
Even after tasting this chocolate Liquid Death, I’m not sure I totally get the point. Who is this for? Why did this happen? Just because you can make hot fudge sparkling water doesn’t mean you should. But they went ahead and did it. It’s nice when creative people have the materials and funding necessary to make their dreams come true, even when it does result in fizzy chocolate water.
Pros: It does taste chocolaty. But it’s not hot fudge chocolate, it’s Tootsie Roll chocolate. This new Liquid Death flavor tastes like sparkling Tootsie Roll water. And I like the flavor of Tootsie Rolls. So I didn’t find it objectionable. It wasn’t unpleasant to drink.
Cons: I didn’t get any trace of ice cream flavor. That would be fine if they simply called this new Liquid Death flavor Hot Fudge—but they specifically call it Hot Fudge Sundae. And a sundae implies ice cream. There is no creaminess. There is, however, a very odd and persistent tang. It doesn’t taste like a citrusy tang. It’s a bit like that tang you can sometimes get from dark chocolate. But I think I’m being generous. Aside from that Tootsie Roll flavor, that’s what you taste the most.

Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test!
Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
