- Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
In our vanilla ice cream ranking, Jordan wrote, “It’s incredible. Like, it’s the absolutely perfect and most delicious vanilla ice cream you can imagine. The texture is ideal. Vanilla beans speckle the beautiful cream-colored base. It’s sweet without being too sweet. This would be great with sprinkles and hot fudge, slapped onto a piece of warm apple pie, or eaten completely alone in a cup. Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Bean Ice Cream was, by far, Sam’s favorite vanilla we tried in our taste test and the rest of the Sporked team agreed!” Häagen-Dazs makes a vanilla bean ice cream that is anything but plain.

- Straus Family Creamery Organic Dutch Chocolate Ice Cream
Managing editor Gwynedd Stuart wrote in our chocolate ice cream ranking, “I’ve never been to the Netherlands, but sitting at home and googling what makes Dutch chocolate different from regular chocolate has to be the next best thing, right? What I learned: Dutch chocolate contains alkali to neutralize the cocoa’s acidity, giving it a smoother flavor.” And this ice cream is smooth. For Justine, it sparked a Proustian sense memory. She was Anton Ego and this was her plate of ratatouille. “I’m back at the county fair and a man gives me an ice cream cone and I’m off to the races,” she said, praising its almost fluffy texture. “It tastes like childhood.” A great chocolate ice cream is creamy, light, and has good chocolate vibes, just like this one from Straus.

- Tillamook Oregon Strawberry Ice Cream
Staff writer Danny Palumbo wrote in our strawberry ice cream ranking, “Tillamook consistently comes in near the top of our rankings because their products are wonderfully buttery, fatty, and delicious. It’s the type of ice cream you can savor longingly with a spoon in your mouth and your eyes shut like a true food pervert. Its superior creaminess fills your mouth with clean, delicious dairy flavor.. It also has a profound tang, delightful tartness, and nice chunks of strawberry. Tillamook scored excellent marks among all of us because this ice cream is just so damn good. Sometimes, we don’t have a clear cut Best of the Best winner. That wasn’t the case during this taste test.” Tillamook swept us all off our feet with their Oregon Strawberry ice cream; consider us wooed.

- Dreyer’s / Edy’s Cookies ‘N Cream Ice Cream
In our cookies and cream ice cream ranking, staff writer Jordan Myrick admitted, “For some reason, I would never think to buy Dreyer’s ice cream. The carton looks so plain compared to some of the other, flashier brands on the market. This is a great example of how you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, though. Dreyer’s Cookies ‘N Cream ice cream was better than any other cookies and cream ice cream we tried. It’s creamy, there are plenty of cookie chunks, and it’s affordable! What’s not to like? And if you can’t find it in your local grocery store, look for Edy’s. It’s the same brand.” You may never see Edy’s and Dreyer’s in the same room, but just think of them as a better tasting Jekyll and Hyde.

- Straus Organic Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
Straus knows chocolate ice cream, and it’s the king of mint chocolate chip too. “If you’re looking for a high-quality, well-made, impressive mint chip ice cream, look no further than Straus Organic Mint Chocolate Chip,” Jordan wrote in our mint chocolate chip ice cream ranking. “It is so nice that I firmly believe you could serve it at a dinner party. It just feels fancy. It has a great distribution of chocolate chips and a wonderful mint flavor. The real star of the show is obviously the dairy. Straus does dairy well and this ice cream base is just so creamy and luscious.” Straus, thank you for just being you!

- Ben & Jerry’s Coffee, Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz!
Ben and Jerry are ice cream icons, and this bold coffee ice cream is iconic in its own right. “As far as straight-up coffee ice cream goes, this one does everything right,” Danny wrote in our coffee ice cream ranking. “The coffee flavor here is as strong as it needs to be without being too overpowering, delivering a delightfully aromatic, nutty, earthy, slightly bitter flavor that permeates every spoonful. Ben & Jerry’s uses a higher percentage of butterfat than their competitors. That fattiness and creaminess does well at taming the bold coffee taste with rich, luscious, and high-quality ice cream. This is the most balanced ice cream on the list—and the big chunks of fudge are delightful too.” We’re rarin’ to get triple buzzed off this coffee ice cream.

- Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert
Jordan had nothing but praise for Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food Non-Dairy frozen dessert in our vegan ice cream ranking. “If you’re looking for a vegan ice cream that could fool even the biggest dairy lovers, look no further than Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Phish Food Frozen Dessert,” they wrote. “This tastes so shockingly close to Ben & Jerry’s regular Phish Food that I was shaken to my core. It’s creamy and chocolatey and there are plenty of mix-ins. In all honesty, this ice cream has no flaws and I wouldn’t change a thing. Good job, Ben and Jerry!” Keep up the good work, both Ben and Jerry!

- Trader Joe’s Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches
In our ice cream sandwich ranking, Trader Joe’s pleasantly surprised Jordan. “Trader Joe’s Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches are truly sublime. This is not hyperbole. They are unbelievably delicious. In general, I expect very little from Trader Joe’s because their products range from good to hot garbage. But these might be one of the best products I’ve tried from Trader Joe’s. The cookie is soft without being mushy, the ice cream is creamy, and the chocolate chips along the sides provide the perfect texture. Go buy these,” they wrote. For the love of ice cream sandwiches, you absolutely need this one in your freezer.

- The Original Klondike Bar
Sometimes originals just can’t be beat. “The original Klondike Bar is 100% perfect,” Jordan firmly declared in our Klondike Bar ranking. “The ice cream is simple, incredibly creamy, flavored with just the right amount of vanilla, and, to my surprise, much lighter than I remember it being. It’s like a cloud that melts in your mouth. The signature chocolate coating is so thin and crispy, like a sheet of chocolate glass. I can’t deny that they knew what they were doing when they invented the Klondike Bar. The other flavors are great, but nothing comes close to the OG.” OG Klondike Bar for the win, baby!!

- Van Leeuwen Sweet Potato Marshmallow Casserole
Editor in chief Justine Sterling wrote in our roundup of Van Leeuwen’s fall flavors, “[Sweet Potato Marshmallow Casserole] has a stretchy swirl of marshmallow in the sweet potato base. It’s very sweet, with a slight hint of sweet potato earthiness. The texture is incredible—wonderfully creamy. It’s ice cream you can chew if it’s cold enough. Give me this over a casserole any day. I’ll eat it right alongside the turkey.” Van Leeuwen is making us change our minds about casseroles—for the better.
