This is the year of pickle-flavored products. We’ve tried Vlasic Pickle Balls, pickle flavored Cheetos, and even dill pickle instant noodles. And we’re not stopping. Today, our peculiar pickle product is a new release from Ruffles: Ruffles Spicy Dill Pickle. We were very kindly sent a few bags from Mr. Frito-Lay himself, but these are available on shelves now for a limited time and do not appear to be exclusive to any particular retailer.

How do they taste? Let’s find out!

New Ruffles Chips Review!

Ruffles Spicy Dill Pickle Review

Pros: Gosh, the pickle really does punch you in the face—in the best way possible! The heat level builds slowly, but the spice combines with the vinegar flavor of the pickle in a way that just has you craving more and more—almost like salt and vinegar chips. These new Ruffles chips also worked well in just about any dip I tried.

Cons: I’m torn on the spice level. While they aren’t “Flamin’ Hot” level hot, these chips are technically spicy. But I wish they would fully commit to the heat or go for something a bit more mild. It feels weird to me that Frito-Lay has been making so many “spicy” chips that aren’t under the “Flamin’ Hot” branding. As a Flamin’ Hot Enjoyer, it’s a little disappointing!

Verdict: If you’re a fan of a good pickle flavored snack and do not mind a more mild, slow building heat, these are the chips for you! I would personally recommend any of the Texas Roadhouse Dips to go with it, particularly the Fried Pickle Dip if you want to double up on the pickle!
