First it was Vlasic Pickle Balls (which will soon be joined by Spicy Pickle Balls), now Frito-Lay has dropped Flamin’ Hot Dill Pickle Cheetos. From what they’ve said on Instagram, they will not be around for very long, but I was able to secure a bag at Walmart after a few weeks of hunting! As both a Flamin’ Hot enjoyer and a pickle enjoyer, I feel it is my duty to crack these open and let you know if they are worth hunting down for yourself.
Pros: This new Cheetos flavor is certainly Flamin’ Hot. It does not hold back on the signature spice that you expect from the Flamin’ Hot brand. I’ve never met a Flamin’ Hot product I don’t like and I have also never met Crunchy Cheetos I don’t like. And the Cheetos definitely smell like dill pickle when you first open the bag. But…
Cons: The dill pickle flavor is nowhere close to where I want it to be. It is very muted and very subtle. If you eat a bunch of them in rapid succession or shove a handful in your mouth, then you get the pickle flavor a little bit more. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. I was expecting the Cheetos to be flavor blasted with dill pickle flavor and they just aren’t. On the completely subjective pickle flavor scale, these come in somewhere around a three and I wish it was closer to a seven or an eight. I won’t go as far to say that these new Cheetos are bad, because I do enjoy them, but I can’t help but wonder how top tier they’d be if there was more pickle flavor.
