Duck! A Wintry Oreo Treat Is Coming Back This Year

When’s the last time you had a snowball fight? It’s been ages for me, but the last time we lived somewhere really cold, I did pretty frequently get in fights with icy sidewalks—winner: sidewalks. Loser: my buns. But we’re here to talk about a different kind of snowball today: Oreo Snowballs are back for the holidays and they look way more enticing than a faceful of frozen water.

What are Oreo Snowballs and can we throw them at people? 

Plot twist: Oreo Snowballs aren’t cookies, they’re candies. More specifically, they’re individually wrapped milk chocolate orbs that are filled with creme that’s studded Oreo cookie bits. They kind of look like Oreo’s take on the Cadbury Creme Egg. They come in boxes of four, which isn’t very many, so we wouldn’t recommend throwing them at people because you’ll probably want to eat them all. Sorry. But hey, they do make good stocking stuffers.

Are Oreo Snowballs the only holiday Oreos coming back this year?

While Oreo Snowballs haven’t actually been spotted in stores yet this season, another seasonal favorite has: White Fudge Covered Oreos. And these I can vouch for. As I put it in our 2024 ranking of the best holiday cookies, “They are very sweet, but the fudge has some dimension and tastes really good with the cookie—it’s like an even creamier cookies-and-cream cookie experience.” Yum.

Are there any new Oreos coming out for this year’s holiday season? 

Glad you asked, because they’re weird! Oreo just announced its releasing a Thanksgiving Dinner Inspired collection of coated cookies in six flavors: Turkey & Stuffing, Creamed Corn, Sweet Potato, Cranberry Sauce, Pumpkin Pie, and Caramel Apple Pie. Sadly, you won’t find these suckers in stores, but you can buy a variety back for $19.99 on Oreo.com. 

Lastly, why won’t they bring back peppermint Oreos for Christmas? 

If you’re like me, every year you hope you’ll randomly, magically spot Peppermint Bark (or Candy Cane) Oreos in the cookie aisle once the Thanksgiving-to-Christmas flip has taken place at the grocery store. And every year I’m let down. Mondelez, why have you forsaken us? If the Oreo Snowballs and White Fudge Covered Oreos won’t scratch that holiday cookie itch, Peppermint Joe-Joe’s from Trader Joe’s and the Benton’s Candy Cane Sandwich Cremes from Aldi will have to do.
