There’s a battle being waged in your local grocery store’s cookie aisle right now. Chips Ahoy, ostensibly just a simple cookie brand, is quietly fueling nationwide arguments over which of their two styles is best. The “blue pack” features their original crunchy cookie, while the “red pack” features their newer, superior chewy cookies. With each style getting its own limited-edition variants and seasonal options, it truly has become a cookie gang war.

Today, we’ve got a brand new entry into the Chips Ahoy’s chewy lineup. Say hello to Chips Ahoy’s new ”Cookie Butter Inspired” chewy cookies. This “Holiday Edition” pack features cookies stuffed with cookie butter-flavored filling and white fudge chips. And I got an early sample to try. As a big fan of anything Biscoff (or legally-distinct-but-similar), here’s hoping Chips Ahoy has captured the magic of airplane cookies just in time for the holidays.

Pros: As a devout member of Team Chewy, I’m all about these cookies. The white fudge chips are doing a lot to keep this texture interesting rather than wholly homogeneous. And the cookie butter filling, the reason we’re all here, is good! It’s not giving any particularly buttery texture, but it delivers the flavor I was hoping for.

Cons: I can’t believe there aren’t any Biscoff cookie pieces in this cookie. Does that feel obvious to anyone else? I do wish the cookie butter filling was a little gooier, but I’ve never had a Chips Ahoy cookie deliver on that. Despite the cookie being labeled “chewy,” I’d actually argue they’re more accurately just not crunchy. By the time you open the pack, it’s a soft-baked cookie this side of dry.

Where can I get Chips Ahoy Chewy Cookie Butter Inspired Cookies?

Luckily for everyone, these aren’t exclusive to any particular retailer. I’ve seen these on shelves at Walmart, Target, and Kroger. While you’re looking for these, you’ll likely find the last of Chips Ahoy’s previous seasonal flavor innovation. The Stranger Things collaboration is made up of double chocolate cookies containing the brand’s first-ever fruit-flavored filling. Strawberry and chocolate, what a unique combination!
