We literally just reported on the new Haagen-Dazs flavors coming out this year, and only days later, I’ve already got my hands on one. Everyone, say hello to Peanut Butter Brittle, the peanut-caramel pint of your dreams.
If you’re wondering why you should care about this, allow me to quote our editor-in-chief Justine Sterling, because she says it best: “Flashy new brands like Jeni’s and Van Leeuwen might drop new flavors every month, but the old guard is a little more frugal when it comes to new releases.” I just love referring to Haagen-Dazs as the old guard, like some ancient, stalwart Game of Thrones house that only breaks from tradition when it has something important to say. Needless to say, my expectations were high. Here’s how it shook out.

New Haagen Dazs Flavor

Pros: Surely this is what heaven tastes like. The peanut butter base is perfect; it’s light, not too aggressive or overpowering, but deeply warm and nutty, woven with rich caramel swirls and crunchy, sweet, crystallized peanut brittle bits. I passed the pint to my Sporked colleague Gwynedd Stuart to try, distracted myself for a minute, and realized Gwynedd was eating spoonful after spoonful in complete silence, lost in a daze. For a second I thought she hated it, but no. She’d fallen in love.
Cons: More crunchy peanut brittle bits, please! Like, twice the amount! Otherwise, I have no notes. The pint arrived pretty melted, so we had to refreeze it. Refreezing gave it an icier texture. I’m not calling it icy—I would never slander the good name of House Haagen like that. I just can’t speak to the texture. I don’t know how creamy and fluffy it’s supposed to be, so my review is based on flavor alone.
Verdict: I’ve never loved a peanut butter ice cream more, people. It’s very sweet, so I would only caution anyone who doesn’t like super sweet desserts against it.
