The World Cup is coming—and we’re about to see a lot of food companies snapping into action. The biggest event in football is prime territory for brands everywhere to jump on the bandwagon by releasing limited-edition or collab versions of their standard fare. We’ve already brought you the news that Lay’s is bringing out three limited-time flavors, and in the next few weeks and months, there will be more to come. Mark our words.

Looks like Celsius is getting in there early, too. The energy drink brand already has over two dozen flavors (and we’ve tried all of them), but it’s recently been starting to tease the release of a World Cup edition. Here’s what we know about this potential new drink.

Drink This Drink, and You Could Kick Like Alvarez

The rumor mill for Celsius’ World Cup flavor has been in operation for a while now. In fact, word started to buzz about it way back at the end of last year, when @suppwire dropped the news that the energy drink producer might have a release planned for us in April (more specifically, some sources have been saying that April 20 might be an announcement date, but that’s not been confirmed). This has been followed up by a steady stream of posts boosting the rumor once more. For its own part, Celsius has stayed quiet about any potential new drink, letting the internet do its marketing work for it.

As for what this new flavor would actually taste like—well, word on the street is that it won’t be new at all. Apparently, Celsius’ new World Cup flavor is going to simply be one (or more) of its existing flavors, repackaged in a World Cup-themed can. We can only pray that it’s not going to use this opportunity to try and make us drink Sparkling Grape Rush again, because we haaaaated it.

It’s Going to Be an Energized Year, People

Celsius isn’t the only energy drink company snapping into action as Spring approaches, and with this massive sporting event sitting right in the middle of the year, we’re betting good money on a lot of them trying to capitalize on it. As for now, though, Red Bull has been playing it a bit safer, sticking to seasons instead of soccer. It’s just brought out its new Spring flavor, Cherry Sakura, which will be available in both regular and sugar-free varieties. It’s also been busy with its lesser-known Organics line, although those aren’t really energy drinks, per se.

What next? Will Monster be bringing out a Messi collab? Will Rockstar be teaming up with Haaland? It remains to be seen—and we also have to await news from Celsius on this new flavor (well, packaging). All eyes on April 20, people.
