Okay, ideally someone who knew a single thing about Xbox would work here at Sporked and would be the one informing you that Fanta has a whole slew of new Xbox-related things happening at the moment. Nintendo? Baby, I have a Switch 2. Playstation? Yep, how else would I play my collection of Criterion Bluerays? But Xbox is a mystery to me! I don’t know from Diabo, Call of Duty, or World of War Craft.

What I do know? Soda. So on that front, I’m qualified to report that in addition to a bunch of limited edition cans featuring your favorite (?) characters from the best (?) Xbox games, Fanta is releasing a totally new soda flavor as part of a limited edition collab: Fanta Crimson Sour Cherry.

Okay, wait, first tell us about the cans.

Gladly! Xbox is turning 25—feel old yet??—so Fanta is celebrating by putting characters from Xbox games on cans of their sodas. This includes Master Chief from Halo, Ghost from Call of Duty, Mephisto and the Paladin from Diablo IV,  Xal’atath from World of Warcraft, and the Toyota Land Cruiser from Forza Horizon 6. Does an SUV count as a character?? I suppose it does!

Expect to find these special edition cans in all the classic Fanta flavors: Orange, Zero Sugar Orange, Strawberry, Pineapple, and Grape.

The other thing is that these special edition Xbox packs have an interactive component. According to the press materials Fanta sent, “each collectible pack becomes a digital portal, unlocking epic rewards and blending reality with digital experiences.” If you have an Xbox, do tell us what any of that means!

Now let’s talk about the BIG NEWS: A new Fanta flavor.

Whether or not you care about Xbox or Land Cruisers or digital experiences, you gotta love a new soda, right? I’m a cherry soda fan and Fanta Crimson Sour Cherry sounds GREAT. We’ve had a few sour sodas in the past, and we’ve mostly liked the zippy effect a little added citric or malic acid brings to the party. And Fanta has sold both Black Cherry and Wild Cherry sodas in the past, so they should know their way around the flavor. We’ll be reviewing this as soon as we can get our hands on a can.

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
