Hey guys, guess what? It’s almost May. May of 2026. Spring is, like, practically over. 2020 was six years ago, and we’re almost halfway through making that seven. Do you feel insane? I feel insane. What was I even here to talk about? Oh yeah. The best chips we’ve tried so far this year.

Right. Okay. I’m refocusing my energy. In terms of new snacks and treats, we’ve tried a few duds in the last four months. (Reese’s Marshmallow Big Cup was a big bummer, unfortch.) But we’ve tried five new chips so far that we can’t stop thinking about, hence my little roundup here. Let’s take a look.
Buldak Ramen’s Quattro Cheese Potato Chips
Buldak, you’ve done it. You’ve created one of the most unique potato chips I’ve tasted in a long time. These have a sweet, almost BBQ-adjacent heat and bold umami, just like their ramen packets. Surprisingly, they aren’t super cheesy—they taste closer to Buldak’s Carbonara than Quattro Cheese, in my opinion—but I still love them. You have to be able to handle your heat, though, because that spice builds as you go.

Trader Joe’s Ranch Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips
Hey, man. I don’t want to hear any discourse around whether or not these count as chips. They’re rolled corn tortilla chips, okay? And they’re the most satisfying, crowd-pleasing snack on this list, too. Seriously. I’m obsessed with them. They taste exactly like Cool Ranch Doritos but in a sturdy, extra crunchy little tube. They’re zesty and a little sour and tangy as hell. What, pray tell, is not to like?

Tostitos Mexican Street Corn Chips
Here’s the thing: These taste more like flavor-blasted tortilla chips than Mexican street corn chips, but I’m totally okay with that, because they’re incredible. They’ve got this buttermilk thing going for them that’s unexpected but delicious, with a subtle charred corn flavor and a lot of tangy savory seasoning. The flavors are bold, but still go well with any queso, guac, or salsa you’ve got in your fridge.

Trader Joe’s Thai-style Yellow Curry Chips
If you like lemongrass, you better try these limited-edition TJ’s chips before they’re gone. It’s hard to make a chip taste bright and refreshing, but that’s what they’ve accomplished here. Don’t get me wrong, they still taste like yellow curry in a savory, satisfying way; you get cumin, curry powder, a touch of lime, and a light chili pepper heat to balance all that lemongrass. But our overall verdict is that these unique potato chips are great for a party, because they add intrigue, even if they aren’t the most addictive chips on the market.

Protein Doritos Nacho Cheese
Yes, Protein Doritos made the list. Sorry, not sorry. I mean, if you’re not trying to up your protein intake and/or make healthier snack choices, don’t pick these over regular Nacho Cheese Doritos. But we can’t discount the fact that these are some of the best-tasting protein chips we’ve had to date. That nacho cheese seasoning goes hard. The texture is slightly mealy, but not nearly as much as other protein chips; it’s actually kind of a feat. Good job, Doritos. As tired as I am of the protein trend, I have to give credit where credit is due.
