It’s frequently cause for celebration when a discontinued Trader Joe’s product returns from the abyss, but even I’m wrapped up in the hype for this one. Really, I know I said “people” are freaking out, but I should probably admit that one of those “people” is me. I’m having a moment here. It was nearly two years ago when I first tasted Trader Joe’s Burrata Filling Stracciatella, but the memory is so vivid, it could have been yesterday.

Time does seem to move slower when you’re yearning, and that’s just what I’ve been doing since I last had this stuff. Every time I visit my local store, I look for it. I’m mostly met with disappointment, but this week I was blessed with the good news. Trader Joe’s stracciatella is back!
I’m telling you: Trader Joe’s Stracciatella is nearly perfect
First of all, if you’re not familiar, stracciatella is what lives inside a ball of burrata. You know when you cut in and reveal all those shreddy curds and cream—that’s stracciatella. It’s burrata minus the mozzarella casing.
When I tried Trader Joe’s version in 2024, I gave it a nearly perfect score of 9.5 Sporks. Why did I dock it half a Spork? Well, it wasn’t fun enough. I’ll get to that in a sec, but trust me, this stuff is damn good. In my own review I called it “a delightful balance of cream and curd” and praised its “familiar fresh-mozzarella flavor [that’s] lightly sweet, milky, and perfectly fatty.” It also has some serious fans, according to Reddit. I know seasonality at Trader Joe’s is a hot topic, but I really can’t see why this isn’t around all year long. I’m not the one to make that call though so all I can do is take advantage of its return and share the good news with you, my faithful readers.
Though the burrata filling isn’t as fun as the real-deal, it still tastes just as good
I’ll be honest, when I first tried this little tub of creamy, curdy cheese, I missed the mozz. The experience of cutting into a ball of burrata is one of life’s great joys! But the fact of the matter remains that this oozy cheese is just as versatile and, arguably, way more convenient than fresh burrata. Slather it on a loaf of freshly baked bread, throw it in with some pasta, or put it on a breakfast sandwich. Heck, eat it by the spoonful straight from the container. There’s no bad way to enjoy Trader Joe’s burrata filling, so stock up on it while you can.
