Prime rib isn’t really the kind of meat that you associate with fast food. That’s because it’s usually very, very expensive (it has the word “prime” in its name, for god’s sake!), and can fetch around $25 or more per pound. So when Hardee’s announced last week that it was adding prime rib to its menu, in several different dishes (including a breakfast burrito), we were intrigued. We were ever so slightly skeptical. And we were a little bit excited.

Introducing The Prime Experience, now available at a Hardee’s near you. Let’s dive in.

Hardee’s Prime Experience Menu

Hardee’s has introduced its Prime Experience menu, as it says in its press release, in line with its mission of “doubling down on its commitment to keeping hardworking people full and satisfied.” It’s doing that with one of the best cuts of beef out there, and in a couple of different forms. The new dishes it’s offering are:

  • The Prime Rib Breakfast Burrito – pieces of tender prime rib wrapped in a tortilla, which is also stuffed with hash rounds, egg, and cheese. This burrito has 36 grams of protein per serving, so if you’re after a high protein breakfast, you can do a lot worse.
  • The Prime Rib Biscuit – A Hardee’s biscuit (which is made from scratch, don’t ya know), filled with prime rib, American cheese, and a fried egg. This one’s got 31 grams of protein.
  • The Prime Rib Burger – This one is a double-meat fest, guys. An 100% Angus beef patty is topped with prime rib dipped in au jus, to which garlic cheddar sauce and grilled onions are added. It’s all dished up in a brioche-style bun.

For a limited time, Hardee’s My Rewards members can grab the Prime Rib Burger for just $5.99 if they order through the Hardee’s app. This, obviously, is a very low price for a burger that has prime rib in it, but Hardee’s is also being very forthright about the fact that these dishes won’t be a half-baked experience. “The star of this lineup is the technique and quality. We’ve taken one of the most iconic cuts of beef and reimagined it across our entire menu,” Hardee’s VP of marketing Sarah Breymaier said in a statement. “From the slow-simmered au jus to the perfectly toasted brioche bun, every element of the Prime Rib menu was chosen to highlight the quality of the beef and create a premium experience any time of day.”

Sweet Treats

The fast food chain is also bringing a couple of other, sweeter items to the table. And – drumroll please! – these are:

  • The Star-Spangled Biscuit – coming up right on time for the US’s 250th birthday, we’ve got a star-shaped biscuit here that contains raspberry, strawberry and blueberry flavors, which is drizzled with icing.
  • The Mocha Freeze – a cross between a milkshake, a cup of ice cream, and a coffee, this one is made with vanilla ice cream blended with cold coffee and chocolate syrup, finished with whipped topping.
  • The Triple Berry platform – a suite of new drinks and desserts that contain strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry flavors. A Triple Berry Tea, a Triple Berry Sparkler, and a Triple Berry Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Shake are all up for grabs.

All of these landed April 15, so get ‘em now while they’re hot, and tell us what you make of its prime rib for yourself.
