Allow me to state the screamingly obvious for one moment: Desserts are good. Desserts are nice. Desserts are always welcome. Whether they’re vegan, slightly unexpected, or just good old-fashioned ice cream, we love ‘em, whether they come after a gourmet meal or after a burger and fries. And guess what? America does too.

So, it’s probably not a great shock that when we found out that there was a study out there that looked at which fast food dessert was the most popular of them all, we were, of course, interested. That study comes courtesy of Yay! Colouring Pages, a website that’s normally more focused on providing creative resources for kids, but which has taken the welcome step of analyzing Google Trends to find which fast food dessert is everyone’s fave. And we’re now duly bringing you the news of said fave, right here.
And the Winner Is…
According to Yay! Colouring Pages’ study, which examined search terms to find which sweet treat is the most-searched-for in each state, the mighty Oreo McFlurry is the nation’s favorite fast food dessert. The Oreo McFlurry came out on top in six individual states, including Florida, Illinois, and Texas. This will likely come as no surprise to most of you, given the sheer dominance of McDonald’s, Oreos, and McFlurries in the food space. Join them together (and the fact that it’s now way easier to find a working McFlurry machine, thanks to McBroken), and you’ve got a successful formula.
And What About the Runner Up?
Well, you know what? The second-most-popular item(s) in the country, and the ones that followed it, were a bit more unexpected. Tied for second place were Arby’s Jamocha Shake and Subway’s Footlong Cookie, with both of them most popular in five states each. The latter’s popularity was more widely spread across the whole country (it had an especially strong showing in Alaska), while the Jamocha Shake did well in the Midwest.
As you might have thought, the rest of the list of popular items was a who’s who of major fast food chains. Popeyes, Taco Bell, and Burger King desserts all scored well with customers, with Cinnamon Apple Pie, Cinnamon Twists, and Hershey’s Sundae Pie, respectively, all go-tos for customers. Dairy Queen and Wendy’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzard and Vanilla Frosty were all top picks, too.
Not as much as the Oreo McFlurry, though, which remains supreme. McDonald’s has recently been pushing its Derpy McFlurry, released as a tie-in with KPpop Demon Hunters, but it clearly knows what the big winner is here.
