Is it fair to say that Kroger isn’t exactly known for its ice cream? We think so. The grocer does a lot of things well, but one thing it’s not especially loud about is its frozen desserts – especially when you compare it to the likes of Publix, which earlier this year was in the mood to drop almost 20 limited-edition ice cream flavors.

Recently, though, it looks as though Kroger’s been taking a keener look at its frozen aisle. It recently did a big upgrade to its frozen meal selection, and it’s just dropped two new ice cream flavors that feel as though they’ll be perfect for summer. We would like to try them, please. Immediately. Thank you. Here’s what it’s selling.
Kroger’s All American Collection
According to various sources, including good old @candyhunting and customers on Instagram and Reddit, Kroger’s two new flavors have dropped at its stores. As for the flavors themselves, they’re true to the All American Collection that the retailer is giving them – and they are…
- Cherry Pie: A cherry pie-flavored ice cream, which is hit with pie pieces and tart cherry swirls.
- Seventh Inning Swirl: Caramel popcorn flavored ice cream, with caramel swirls and praline peanuts.
Kroger promises that both of these flavors are made with real cream, which is always nice to see. These varieties very much feel as though they’re in the spirit of July 4, and the myriad food products that are coming out to celebrate America’s big anniversary, so we don’t anticipate them being part of its permanent collection. But hey. Stranger things have happened.
And Are Customers Excited?
Yep. These new flavors have been met with much adoration from Kroger customers, who have voiced their excitement in @candyhunting’s comment section. Kroger’s demonstrating a pleasing ambition here that we always like to see, and that immediately sets these out from the pack. By sheer vibe alone, these are definitely one of the more impressive ice cream flavors that the store has put out.
As for how they taste – well, the actual follow-up to said excitement may be a little mixed. One person who tried the Cherry Pie flavor on Reddit stated that it did taste slightly artificial, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing (if you’re into a more artificial cherry note, of course, which some people are). They did, though, give it a 5/10 rating, which wasn’t exactly glowing. We don’t have word just yet on the Seventh Inning Swirl flavor, but we’ll be keeping an eye out.
