Raise your hands if you are excited for the World Cup final! Well, okay, I guess I can’t actually see your hands, but I’m gonna assume they’re up right now―especially after the hold that the international soccer teams have had on American audiences. The three host countries may have been eliminated from the tournament already, but you’ve got to admit, America’s great unifier has always been sports. Everybody can find something to love or someone to root for on the pitch or through their screens and Chipotle is really making the most of American enthusiasm for the Cup.

The Matchday BOGO deal with Chipotle, where you could wear a jersey to Chipotle for an automatic BOGO meal, was the brand’s most successful promotional day in its history. Following that success, they wanted to end cap the tournament with a similar promotion. But this time, it’s cheeky and more difficult to obtain. For your next freebie, Chipotle is really gonna make you work for it.

Pay Attention During The Hydration Break

Chipotle loves to play with its customers and tease them for “accidentally” filling their complimentary water cups with lemonade. This deal combines that idea with the new introduction of water breaks into the World Cup tournament. For those not as well-versed in soccer (or football, as they say) lingo, the new water breaks happen midway through each 45-minute half of the game.

During the second water break of the World Cup final on July 19th, Chipotle will release a video on their Instagram account challenging their viewers to follow a cup of lemonade across the screen ultimately revealing a text-to-win code for one free entrée redeemable at Chipotle. But here’s the catch, in the video, the lemonade filled cup will be moving at the same time as three identical water filled cups to play off the joke. 

How To Get The Deal

Ultimately, the first 100,000 people who text the code unveiled by the lemonade cup to 888-222 will receive the free entrée offer. Senior Vice President of Marketing at Chipotle Stephanie Perdue said that, “Our water cup has become one of the most recognizable symbols in chipotle fan culture, and when hydration breaks emerged as a new part of the match day experience, we saw an opportunity to bring that fan lore to life on one of the biggest stages in sports.”

Chipotle said that the summer has brought along many first-time guests from tourists experiencing American culture and iconic brands for the first time. And the deal even applies to them. Anyone can participate and anyone can enjoy so that we can all celebrate the end of the summertime football fun together. And there’s nothing better to celebrate with than free food.
