Costco’s always had a fairly utilitarian vibe, what with its bulk-buy, “get all your essentials here” nature – but dig a little deeper under those halogen lights, and you’ll find some bizarre stuff. Costco can cut loose sometimes with its product selection, whether that’s through offering weird bread, viral desserts, or mega barrels of maple syrup (that last one isn’t inherently strange, it must be said, but the size. Naturally, customers notice all this – and they’re taking mental stock as they go. Ask any Costco shopper what the more bizarre thing they’ve seen in store is, and they’ll have some thoughts for you. And we wanted to dig deeper on the items that have really stood out.

Diamond Rings

Over on Facebook, a customer asked fellow Costco shoppers what the strangest thing they’ve ever seen in-store was – and provided some answers of her own. One such answer was a diamond ring (well, three diamond rings, to be exact), which she found on Costco’s website for the whopping price of $159,999.99. That cent you get off $160,000 makes all the difference to your budget, huh?

Coffins

We can always rely on Reddit to supply the goods, especially when it comes to wild Costco items. One shopper, upon being reminded that Costco “used to” sell coffins, pointed out that they’re still very much available (online, at least). They start at around $1,349.99.

Whole Animals

Costco has traditionally been one of the best places to stock up on meat, but in some stores, they take it to the next level. Various people have described spotting whole animal carcasses in their Costcos (and not just in Costco Business Centers), with whole pigs, goats, and lambs available for purchase, which you can then butcher yourself.

Louis Vuitton Luggage

Perhaps not the weirdest thing to spot anywhere, but placing a $4,800 suitcase on the shop floor? That takes some bravery, Costco. This tiny piece of Louis Vuitton luggage was encased in perspex, both for display purposes and for protection.

Private Jet Card

Ever wanted to emit jet fuel into the atmosphere entirely of your own volition, causing unnecessary damage to the environment when flying commercial would do just fine? Well, now you can – for $89,000. A Redditor spotted a private jet card, to the tune of nearly 90 thousand dollars, at their Costco, which would give the lucky purchaser 20 hours in the air. That said, we’d imagine that if you can already afford this, you’re probably lucky enough.

Transport Isolette

Perhaps the strangest item of them all – and that’s saying something – is the transport isolette that a customer spotted on Costco’s shelves, which came without any price tag. This item is a mobile neonatal intensive care system, designed to provide accommodation and medical support to infants when being moved. It’s an object that isn’t inherently strange in and of itself, and one which, of course, has a vital function – but I think we can all agree, not one that you’d expect to see in a big-box store.
