The sting of discontinuation…it’s a pain we all feel. The moment when you stroll confidently through the aisles to the destination of a fan-favorite product, only to find that it’s gone. No more. Wrenched from the shelves for good. I know I’m painting a dramatic picture here, but it’s deep! A good item is hard to find, and when they disappear, it leaves a food-shaped gap in the heart and the soul.

This is something that Costco customers know well. Over the years, its shoppers have had to deal with plenty of discontinuations, and those beloved items that are no more live long in the memory. We’ve rounded up some of the items Costco fans want to see get another spin.

Restock That Bakery Section, Costco

In a Facebook thread that asked Costco customers which items they want to see make a comeback, it stood out that a fair few of the items mentioned were baked goods. The store’s shoppers highlighted its old chocolate muffins, which have been replaced by newer, smaller ones, as one of the greatest losses from the bakery section. Its Kirkland-brand sandwich rolls and cinnamon loaves were also named as items customers want to return, as well as its shortbread and old-style chocolate chip cookies and bakery granola – along with plenty of non-Kirkland items once stocked by Costco that are now no more (like cookie dough bites).

Costco customers also named a bunch of other sweet items, now exorcised from its shelves and freezer units, that they wish would make a reappearance. Mini mango bites, low-sugar cherry preserves, Fuji apple sticks, and several types of ice cream bars were highlighted as much-missed discontinued items. Now, granted, you never know what’s around the corner – Costco could be planning on bringing any or all of these back at any moment – but if it isn’t…the people have spoken.

Savory Selections

Along with the sweet goodies Costco has wrenched from its customers’ grasps, there are also a bunch of savory items people wish it would bring back. A lot of these are in its food court: Its combo pizza and Polish dogs were two things that came up again and again as discontinuations that its shoppers felt were especially egregious. Over in the frozen section, one customer named a Mexican street corn that they’ve been thinking a lot about lately, and others said they were mourning the store’s frozen burrito bowl and blackened chicken options.

Elsewhere, the discontinued items Costco shoppers missed felt eminently more practical. Buckets of laundry soap and huge jugs of white vinegar used to be staples for some people, but alas, now they’re no more. That last one feels strange, given Costco’s big-box nature and how eminently useful it is to have a big ol’ bottle of white vinegar around (I have two, in fact, and yesterday used some to remove the smell from a Kilner jar seal — but I digress!). But hey, we don’t make these stocking decisions. We’re sure there’s some logic behind it all.
