Domino’s feels like it’s working harder than ever to keep its customers on-side. A few weeks ago, I wrote about the slight slump it had experienced this year, and its promise of a new dish, which its CEO, Russell Weiner, said was one of the best-tasting products it’s ever offered, coming later this year. Since then, it’s gone hard on the deals, offering all of its pizzas at half-price, and has dropped a seriously wild ice cream that was designed to get people both talking and through its doors.

And now, it’s tempting its fanbase differently: By giving them money. Well, we say money; it’s giving them a discount. But every little helps in this economy! Let’s discuss.

Test App, Get Paid

Yesterday, Domino’s announced that it would be rewarding customers who used its new website and app, which it updated earlier this year, with a $5 off coupon for their next order. Domino’s wants you to know that it’s not like all those other companies with this one. “Other companies treat consumers like guinea pigs and ask them to test their sites and provide feedback for free,” it said in its press release, before stating that the pizza chain’s doing it differently.

Here’s the deal: From now until August 30, if you place an order through its website or its app, you’ll get a $5 coupon to use on your next digital order. Domino’s does say that this coupon is for use the following week…so you may have to plan for a double-dose of pizza. But if you were planning on doing that anyway, then $5 is $5, folks.

You don’t have to leave feedback to get this coupon, but Domino’s is definitely putting it out there that it’d value it.  “At the end of every online order, customers will have the chance to provide feedback on their ordering experience,” said its vice president of global digital marketing, Mark Messing. “While it’s not required to receive the coupon, we’d still love to hear what worked for them and what we could improve.” He went on to say that “earning a discount on pizza for sharing your opinion may be the easiest side gig ever.” Hard to disagree – but, again, only if you’re planning on actually ordering pizza with any regularity.

And Why Is Domino’s Doing This?

Well, we mentioned the slight slump above, and it could be that Domino’s is going on a big old charm offensive to try and get its groove back, after the launch of its new Slice Sauce didn’t quite meet expectations. It’s also elevating both customer experience and importance, which other fast food chains have been doing a lot of this year (most obviously, Burger King). In this cash-strapped climate, businesses really want you to know they value you. In this case, enough to pay you.
