Alright. The time has come. I’ve aired my beef with 7UP and their latest soda flavor creation and now it’s time for me to finally try it out for myself. Is it as revolutionary as 7UP would have you believe or is it just a marketing gimmick that was not worth making my blood boil for? Let’s get into it. Here’s my thoughts on 7UP’s new lime lemon soda.

Our Verdict
Pros: Can I taste a difference between this and regular 7UP? I actually can. I’m not afraid to admit that. It’s the very least I expect 7UP to deliver after all this build up. There’s more lime and less lemon. It’s just that. It’s the same crisp, refreshing citrus drink just with a slightly different taste. Like you took it out of an alternate dimension.
Is it worth writing home about? No. Is it worth ripping out all instances of the classic 7UP from the zeitgeist and replacing it with this new lime lemon variety? Again, no. It’s just a drink that true lime-heads can grab if they want more lime in their life.
Cons: This is certainly not worth all the fanfare. And honestly, the gaslighting. Let me remind you of how crazy 7UP has been with their coverage of this new offering. Drew Panayiotou, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer at Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP) said the following. “7UP has an incredible legacy, but by giving lime the spotlight, we’re rewriting the rules of the lemon lime category. We are transforming a beloved heritage brand into a modern disruptor.”
“We’re rewriting the rules of the lemon lime category.” My brother. What are we doing?? Do you honestly hear yourself? This is barely a blip on the radar let alone a whole shakeup to the category. I will quickly admit that I care too much about this, what is in my opinion, absurdity. I would promise to not let it affect my overall ranking of this new soda but if I did that, it would be a lie. I have to stick to my morals on this one.
Honestly, it’s getting 5/10 sporks because it’s just that. It’s average. It’s an average soda that I would have certainly loved more if 7UP hadn’t gone nuclear with their coverage of the release. Will this hurt the bottom line of 7UP? No, but then again, that’s not my intention. It’s just about sending a message to the higher ups than they need to get a grip.
