Okay, we all know fall is coming. Lattes are being pumpkin-spiced and Oreos are becoming ghosts. But the real sign of fall? Seeing those Lindt Lindor Truffle commercials. You know the ones―a chocolatier stares way too hard at chocolate and eventually some lady takes like, the happiest bite ever of a perfect sphere of milk chocolate. Fun fact: I deeply, deeply dislike that ad. But it does mean that the leaves are changing and our favorite truffle flavors are returning. And today that returning flavor is none other than Lindt Lindor Pumpkin Spice Truffles.

Why Does This Flavor Work So Well?

Not everything “pumpkins” well. We’ve all learned that the hard way. And actually, we’re seeing a lot of variety in fall flavor this year―cider donut flavored energy drinks, Biscoff-flavored Krispy Kreme donuts, two kinds of Faygo apple sodas, the list goes on. But pumpkin spice is always going to be around, with Starbucks and Dunkin each having their own versions of the trendy latte (and even Panera Bread has joined in on the fun).

But a less common flavor combination is chocolate with pumpkin. It’s certainly not an easy one to pull off. But Lindt does it. Maybe it’s the mixing magic of that chocolatier commercial―or, more likely, the cacao percentage of these delectable little spheres. The U.S. minimum cacao content for milk chocolate is 10% with the upper limit being 40%. This means Lindt Lindor truffles tend to be on the much milkier side of the milk chocolate spectrum.

So the same reason a thick, sweetened gourd syrup works in a milky coffee drink is why Lindt is able to combine spicy pumpkin notes with its chocolate―their milk chocolate is far, far creamier than it is chocolatey.

A Fan-Favorite Flavor

That’s not a bad thing―especially if you gauge it by consumer reception. Yes, we do kind of automatically adjust our palates for pumpkin this time of year. But people do seem to really like Lindor’s Pumpkin Spice Truffles, beyond whether or not pumpkin is in season. This is also the perfect truffle to bridge the seasonal gap, especially with its gorgeous bronze bag and metallic candy wrapper.

To be fair, it’d be hard to go wrong with that rich, silky, melting milk chocolate outer core filled with (again, extra creamy) chocolatey, pumpkin spice filling. Lindt has gone wrong with its Lindors before, but its pumpkin spice truffles are a fan-favorite for a reason. And they’re finally back on shelves.
