This Retro Candy Just Got An Upgrade For Halloween

We’re never short on Dum-Dum flavors in this life. Quite the contrary, in fact. This century-old lollipop brand likes to give its customers as many options as it can, and last year, it dropped seven new flavors at once (plus its mystery flavor) to bolster its product line, which was already pretty voluminous. Since then, though, we haven’t seen a lot of news come our way about this iconic candy; things have been quiet on the Dum-Dum front.

That, as you’ve probably guessed by now, has changed. Halloween is beckoning with its bony, spooky hands, and Dum-Dums has responded with a new flavor. Here’s what you need to know. 

Caramel Apple Jumbo-Filled Dum-Dums

Yesterday, we learned via @candyhunting that Dum-Dums has just dropped a new Caramel Apple Jumbo-Filled variety. These new lollipops come with a green apple exterior and a chewy caramel flavor filling, for a dual candy effect that sounds like it’s pre-destined to remove any fillings from your teeth. You have been warned: Chew carefully and responsibly. Caramel Apple Jumbo-Filled Dum-Dums feel like the ideal thing to put in your candy basket for trick-or-treaters this year, too, so warn them to chew carefully and responsibly as well. 

Dum-Dums’ new flavor will be a Walmart exclusive, and they’re listed on the store’s website now. So far, Dum-Dums will be pleased with the response from customers: While we haven’t seen any reviews come in just yet, folks in various corners of the internet have been voicing their excitement about these. I get it: They feel like a lot of fun, and that’s clearly what it’s going for. 

The Retro Resurgence

Halloween is always the time for retro candy brands to shine, and this year, we’ve seen a couple of them rear their heads once more as they prepare to be dumped into buckets for small hands to grab. Hot Tamales and Mike & Ike popped up a couple of weeks back, with a new and returning flavor, respectively. Then, you’ve of course got your offers from M&M’s, Hershey’s, Haribo, and the like. If anyone was under any illusions that this Halloween season would somehow be quieter on the candy front, that’s not the case at all. Go forth and pillage your supermarket shelves (by which we mean, buy your candy responsibly and in a law-abiding manner). They’ll only be around for a few more months, and then it’s curtains until 2027.
