Oh, Aldi. You really do give with one hand and take with the other, huh? Just today, we were talking about the store’s price cuts, with it bringing down costs across a large swathe of its items in a bid to help customers save some cash. Good thing, right? Also today, though, we are duty-bound to discuss one of its new fall drops that just isn’t quite cutting the mustard. Not such a good thing, right?

Well, look – no one gets it right all the time. You may want to avoid these ice cream sandwiches, though, no matter how cute they are.
Aldi Maple Leaf Ice Cream Sandwiches
This year, Aldi’s dropped its new Maple Leaf Ice Cream Sandwiches, which combine maple leaf cookies with a maple-flavored ice cream. If these feel familiar, it’s because Aldi’s sold a similar product for the last couple of years: Its Maple Leaf Crème Cookies, which are an apparent Trader Joe’s dupe. Now, though, they’ve made the leap to the freezer section, and they definitely look the part. A recent Reddit thread featured a picture of one of these new cookies, which has a nice, thick layer of ice cream in the center. No skimping here on quantities, at least.
Where things are skimping, though, is on flavor. Apparently, Aldi hasn’t quite got the maple flavor down here, and the ice cream just doesn’t have a strong enough taste running through it. The cookies, too, are just too soft and fall apart when you’re trying to eat them. It’s a shame, as these feel as though they have the potential to be as good as its Maple Leaf Crème Cookies, which people remain in love with. Alas, alas.
It’s Not All Bad
We should point out here that taste, as ever, is subjective, and some people aren’t nearly as cold on these ice cream sandwiches as others. In the same Reddit thread above, one person called them “incredible,” while another person said that their kids loved them. So, it’s all in the eye of the beholder, we guess.
If you don’t want to chance it with these little frozen cookie sandwiches, though, then Aldi has plenty of other fall goodies to grab. Check out its fall-inspired brioche (which is, mercifully, not pumpkin spice-flavored), or take a chance on its new fall gelatos. We…didn’t love them. But again — all in the eye of the beholder!
